Thanks to everyone who helped on the volunteer weekend. It has been a great success with many tasks achieved and lots of fun had. The cats helped where they could and were always available for pats when we needed a break. Here are a few photos that were taken by one of the volunteers.

Eleanor and Luke
a happy ending story of a brother and sister reunited

One day, when I came home from work, I saw two tiny kittens sitting next to the concrete crossing of the creek. They were trembling with fear and hugging each other.
I stopped and very carefully tried to get closer, but they ran off into the tall tussocks of the paddock.

I talked to the farmer who owned the property and asked him if he knew about these kittens. He replied he would shoot cats. After a little discussion he agreed to let me try to trap them and even offered to help.

After a short while I was able to trap the little girl who I named Eleanor. She was tiny and very scared. The first picture showed her after she had started to relax a little. Over time Eleanor grew exceptionally long ear hairs, visible in the next picture of her taken this year. She is still a small girl.

I kept trying to trap her sibling, but there was nothing. Month after month nothing worked. I feared the worst; sadly, it is a very hostile environment for cats out here.

But then I saw him once darting into the tussocks near where I saw them the first time.

After more than two years I finally could trap her brother. He had survived and by that time he had grown almost twice her size. He has the same exceptionally long ear hairs as you can see in the pictures, I named him Luke. In the first picture he is supervising the construction of the cat lake and in the second he confesses that he needs another treat...

Both live now happily reunited here at the sanctuary and have become most affectionate. They always come for our regular walk along with their friends.

Every afternoon Martin does a boundary patrol to check the fences and structures on the sanctuary. A large group of cats likes to join, even some of the most elusive ones. Lovely how they can all come together and enjoy each other's company and their surroundings.

All fixed. Thank you ๐Ÿคฉ
