PRO’s & CON’s of MISS MAPLE (MAPES) 💛

I’m going to run through each of my birds and list what I personally believe to be their pros and cons. I must preface this by saying they all have their strong points, and combined could make great offspring.

Maple is a very petite and pretty little lady, her pros would be;

• Good wing feathering, little to no gaps, however still growing out.
• Smooth round comb, not too big, and not too small.
• Remnants of MTF (middle toe feathering).
• Bearded, which I love!

And her cons…

• Shape isn’t there, she doesn’t have that round deep silkie chest or nice full heart shape through the body.
• Splash markings are very little, I was adamant she would be white as her markings have only just started to come out in the last couple of months.
• She’s a scaredy cat, I’ve handled all of my birds the same since they hatched, however she has never really warmed up to me.

PSA 🩷

I’m still a new breeder myself, and I’m learning every single day. I’m always happy to share what I know, answer questions and help others wherever I can.

But sometimes you need to remember there’s a real person on the other side of this page. That person is me, an average joe, with a 9-5 and a 5-9.

It’s wild to me, but some people can’t even greet me with a “hello” before asking for birds, prices or information.

I’m one person with a very small flock, trying to build something from absolutely nothing. If I’ve already answered your question, or said I have nothing available, please respect that.

I’ll always give kindness, patience and respect, but I expect a little of it back too.

And to the majority of you who are always supportive, kind, encouraging and genuinely lovely, thank you. I appreciate you more than you probably realise. ✨

A little more of Skipper’s poultry history. ✨

Grandma was able to find even more of my great grandfather Richard Graham “Skipper” poultry awards spanning from 1955 through to 1970.

Place cards and ribbons from Wagga, Lockhart, Ganmain and The Rock, for his Australorps, Minorcas and Leghorns.

Seeing the ribbons alongside the old place cards makes it even more special. These were birds he bred, showed and placed with over 70 years ago, and now I get to hold onto a little piece of that history.

Funny how family traditions have a way of coming back around. 🐓

Our first Ganmain & District Poultry Club Auction is coming up on Saturday, 17 October 2026 and bookings are now open!

• Bird Pens: $5, max 3 birds per pen, sold as one lot
• Tables: $20
• Eggs & Sundry Items: $2 per item
• Bidder Numbers: $2

Key times:
• Shed open from 7:00am
• Birds penned by 9:00am
• Auction: 9:30am–10:30am

Cash only, no EFTPOS.

Today we welcomed four very special new faces to the flock! Bruiser, our Splash rooster, and three beautiful blue pullets, Magnolia (Maggie), Posie & Daphne. 🌸

Our girls are from Buster at Hocus Pocus Poultry, with Bruiser joining us from Kelsy at Sandy Plains Poultry.

We’re so excited to have these beautiful birds as part of our flock and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them here at Feather & Filly.

A huge thank you to both of you for trusting us with these gorgeous birds and allowing us to bring them home. We’re so grateful! 🤎
