Catch of the day! 🪝🐟

We had not one but TWO patients present with fish hooks in the same spots, on the same day! In an attempt to remove the hook from their face, these poor pups got their own foot stuck in the mix as well! 🤕 Luckily the hooks were able to be removed safely under sedation and no further damage occurred.

Remember to keep hooks, bait and any other fishing gear out of reach of curious critters. If your pet has a run in with a fish hook, please bring them to a vet so that they can be removed safely and pain-free! 🤍

Meet the bravest girl Nell!
Nell presented to us with a very sore leg after falling off the back of the ute. Radiographs revealed that Nell had fractured her femur into multiple pieces! 🤕
The femur is the strongest bone in the body - its main purpose is to bear the animals weight and support functions such as running and jumping. Because Nell’s fracture was so complicated, it could not be repaired surgically in a way that would preserve the integrity of her leg and support her working dog lifestyle. The best option for Nell was to amputate the limb.

We are happy to report that Nell has recovered beautifully and is very eager to get back to work. She may have one less leg, but she makes up for it with her big personality! 🤎🐑

On the weekend we saw Cohuna Kangas vs Moulamein for the first time, which meant we had all our Border Vet netball girls in the same place!
Emily played a great game in A grade, and Claire came up against Jess, Nat and Victoria in B reserve. We also have our two injured girls - Eliza and Ava as team managers!
It is always a great day watching this group. Come on down to support the girls throughout the season 💜❤️

Last week we said farewell to our clinic coordinator Kylie after 14 years at Border Vets. Kylie has been with us for many important milestones - from weddings, babies, new clinics and everything in-between. We have been through it all with Kylie!
We can’t thank her enough for everything she has taught us. She will always be a part of our Border Vet family 🩵

Last month we were lucky enough to encounter a Murray-Darling Carpet Python - one of the rarest snake species found in Victoria with under 200 spotted in the wild! After applying some first aid and a little bit of TLC, this guy was released back into the bush 💚 🐍
