Welcome Nurse Tiarne!💓🐾

You may already know our lovely Tiarne around the clinic but we thought it was time to officially introduce her and share a little more about the person behind the scrubs!

Tiarne has been working in veterinary nursing for 6.5 years and recently made the move from the Gold Coast to the beautiful Coffs Coast. We’re very lucky to have her as part of our team and she has quickly become such a valued member of the clinic.

Tiarne has a real passion for complex hospital cases and interesting surgeries and loves the challenge of learning something new. She has a particular soft spot for big boofy dogs and large working breeds and is completely obsessed with Burmese cats and kittens.🐶😻

Outside of the clinic Tiarne is rarely far from the outdoors. She loves spending her days off with her Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Xylophone Glockenspiel exploring everything the coast has to offer. From ocean swims and snorkelling to sunrise and sunset walks or finding a quiet headland to sit with a good book she loves making the most of her beautiful new home. 🌊📚🌅

When she’s not at work or exploring with Xy she can usually be found with a book or listening to music. She is also currently completing her Honours research into using emerging technology to study large shark occurrence which perfectly sums up her curiosity and love for the natural world. 🦈

We absolutely love having Tiarne on our team and the knowledge kindness and genuine care she brings to every patient she looks after.✨

A tiny tick can cause a big problem for our pets. Paralysis ticks can affect dogs and cats and tick paralysis can become life threatening if left untreated.

Know the early signs:
• Wobbliness or weakness especially in the back legs
• Changes in their bark or meow
• Difficulty swallowing or excessive drooling
• Retching or coughing
• Heavy or noisy breathing
• Vomiting or regurgitation

The best protection is prevention. 🐾

✔️ Use a reliable tick preventative year round
✔️ Check your pet thoroughly every day especially around the face ears neck between the toes and under the collar
✔️ Keep grass and vegetation around your home trimmed
✔️ Avoid letting pets wander through dense bush and long grass where possible

We stock a range of tick and parasite prevention options in clinic and our team can help you choose the right protection for your pet.

And remember if your pet shows any signs of tick paralysis seek veterinary attention immediately.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM DR DANIELLE! 🐾💗

Danielle is a local to the beautiful Coffs Coast and has a passion for small animal medicine, with a particular interest in dentistry.

She studied a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. Fun fact: this is also where Dr Emma, Dr Ainslie and Dr Michael studied! 🩺🎓

When she’s not at work, you’ll often find Danielle at the beach with her rescue dog Rusty. 🌊🐶

You’ll be seeing plenty of Danielle around Rose Avenue, so please join us in giving her a big welcome! We’re so excited to have her on the team and can’t wait for you all to meet her! 💕

And we don’t know about you guys, but we think the nurses coordinated with Dani for her first day 🩷😂

Meet Neti 🩷🩷

This gorgeous 2 year old French Bulldog came to us for BOAS surgery and stenotic nares correction to help improve her breathing and quality of life.🥰

BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) is common in flat faced breeds such as French Bulldogs. Their anatomy can cause narrowing and obstruction of the upper airways, making breathing more difficult and requiring more effort.

Neti’s BOAS surgery involved reducing her soft palate and removing excess tissue that was obstructing her airway. Her stenotic nares correction involved widening her narrowed nostrils. Together these procedures help improve airflow through her airways and make breathing easier.

She had a smooth and uneventful recovery and is at home resting with her family. 🥹🩷 She’ll have 14 days of strict rest while she heals.

If you have a Frenchie or another brachycephalic breed and notice noisy breathing, snoring, exercise intolerance or difficulty coping with heat, book a consultation with Dr Michael for a breathing assessment. 🐶🩺

Meet The Team Monday🐾

Meet Dr Michael! 👋🏼

With a passion for surgery and ophthalmology (that’s all things eyes 👀), Michael brings a wealth of experience to our team.

Originally from a farm near the Central Coast, Michael studied veterinary science at CSU in Wagga Wagga before completing an internship with SASH. Since then, he’s worked across everything from farm animal practice and general practice to emergency, developing a particular love for surgery and orthopaedics along the way.

When he’s not at the clinic, you’ll usually find Michael enjoying the beach, fishing, kayaking or rugby. And fun fact… he’s also a keen amateur baker and has somehow managed to keep the same sourdough culture alive for 15 years! 🍞

We’re so lucky to have you on the team Michael! 💛🐾

Next up in our staff introductions is our wonderful Head Veterinarian, Dr Emma! ✨💛

Emma brings over a decade of veterinary experience and a genuine passion for providing compassionate, whole pet care. Her veterinary career has taken her from practices across Sydney and regional NSW all the way to volunteering in the Galapagos Islands. 🌎🐢

With a special interest in medicine, surgery and holistic health, Emma is also an IVAS-qualified veterinary acupuncturist, a qualification held by only a small number of vets in Australia. She loves looking at the bigger picture and finding the right combination of treatments to help each individual pet.

Her favourite patients? Our golden oldies! 🥹 Emma has a real soft spot for senior pets and helping them enjoy their later years with comfort, dignity and plenty of love. She forms such special bonds with her patients and genuinely gets to know them and the people who love them.

Emma’s care goes far beyond simply treating an illness. She puts so much thought, time and heart into every patient she sees and is always looking for ways to make them feel more comfortable, supported and cared for. She is constantly working behind the scenes, supporting our team and going above and beyond for our patients and their families. We’re incredibly lucky to have her. ❤️

When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll usually find Emma enjoying time with her husband Athos, their two beautiful girls and their ever growing collection of animals. She also loves getting out on horseback whenever she gets the chance! 🐴💗
