☀️🐾 HEATSTROKE IN PETS: KNOW THE SIGNS! 🐾☀️

With the heat and humidity here in Darwin, our pets can overheat quickly! Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency, but knowing the signs could save your pet’s life. ❤️

🌡️ Signs of heatstroke include:
🐶 Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
🐶 Heavy drooling
🐶 Bright red or unusually pale gums
🐶 Weakness, wobbliness or collapse
🐶 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🐶 Confusion, seizures or unconsciousness

🌴 How to keep your pets safe:
✅ Always provide plenty of fresh, cool water.
✅ Keep pets in cool, shaded or air-conditioned areas.
✅ Avoid walking during the hottest parts of the day. Walk early in the morning or later in the evening.
✅ Avoid hot pavement, which can burn paws.
✅ Never leave your pet in a parked car — even with the windows open!
✅ Remember, short-nosed breeds such as Bulldogs, Pugs and French Bulldogs are at increased risk.

🚨 WHAT TO DO IF YOU SUSPECT HEATSTROKE
Contact your veterinarian immediately and arrange urgent veterinary care. Do not delay treatment to see if your pet improves.

⚠️ Heatstroke is a veterinary emergency. Even if your pet seems to recover, serious complications can develop.

Did you know that maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important things you can do to support your pet’s long-term health and wellbeing? 💙

Just like people, every animal is different. Their ideal weight can depend on their breed, age, size, lifestyle, activity level and individual health needs. That’s why there isn’t a “one size fits all” approach when it comes to your pet’s weight. 🐶🐱

Carrying extra weight can put additional strain on your pet’s joints and body and may increase their risk of developing certain health problems. On the other hand, being underweight can also be a sign that something needs attention.

The good news? Small changes can make a big difference! 🐾✨
