Another day, another dog in a shock collar and more, being pushed on the back to do a down stay when he's likely sore and stressed, on my feed, edited to look flashy, with some very grim dog body language and training.

Using punishment in the name of adopting them at any cost can have real fallout and can set well-intentioned adopters up to change their entire life, spend thousands, and feel like they're in the deep end when they just wanted a dog. TBH, that's kinda why I am a trainer now, with good guidance when I was trying to figure out how to get educated from pals like Focus Dogs + Westside Paws.

The need to place every dog at any cost nearly killed my dog and me, and it most likely killed the foster dog we were trying to 'save'. A foster dog I took because he needed "emergency placing" because he was "staring at the baby". A dog who was so traumatised, shut down and covered in scars that when I scroll past his photos, I get chills and feel really sad, as I can now see the hard, scary, big stress on his face and eyes.

I love rescue and fostering; I love being able to help an animal find their feet. It's been a huge part of my life for a long time. Many are doing the good work, and I hope more learn and grow.

Just ask 'em and ask why, I guess.

Introducing our foster mamma Elvira, and her kittens Angelino and Peewee/Daphne. Mumma only a baby herself, and kittens are 5 weeks. After a rough start, they’re nearly ready for adoption. We’re doing our best to socialise them with all sorts of good things and weird things humans do to help them adjust to their future lives. If you’re interested or know someone let me know I’ll keep you in the loop. 💚

Joan is up for adoption!

Mabel’s Mayhem and I fostered Joan once our friends from Central Goldfields Shelter reached out to ask if we could assist while they placed her into rescue to get her medical care she needed.

Found on the streets, Joan looked like an exbreeding dog who was no longer profitable. Despite her rough start, she adores people! Shes really so fun, loves tug, a cuddle, and being an absolute clown, curious and brave.

Her skin is awesome for a white frenchie (unheard of!) and she’s really great with gentle handling.

She’s not keen on dogs right now (with her history, why would you be?), but with consistent positive reinforcement training, safety and security, she’s really gonna thrive.

Please adopt her, so I don’t have to. This dog is really special, but I am not ready. I’m offering 15% off an initial session to set you up for the best start.

Client success story: Meet Pepper!

Pepper came to me last June after her parents reached out to Free Pet Behaviour Line after adopting her and noticing some aggressive behaviours toward people and dogs. Scary for everyone!

We slowed things down for this new rescue, built safety and trust, and her parents went above and beyond to learn all about Pepper and what she needs and wants.

After building skills with savvy helper dogs like Obi, advocating for her space, and joining Growly Dog Club to practice putting it all together, Pepper is now an off-lead legend with human and dog friends, living her best life romping the beaches of Adelaide when visiting the grandparents. I am so proud of this family for learning to help Pepper be her best self, putting in the work and making me redundant. Pepper updates make my week.
