What are you doing this school holidays?

Our 2026 Upcycling Award is now open! And we're very excited. Plus we have a new category: textiles!!!

If you love to create, live in Victoria and want to help our planet, this is the competition for you.

There are four prizes of $300!!!

This competition is open to Victorians of all ages. It's open to individuals only and must be something made from items destined for landfill. 

We'd like you to upcycle something into something else. 

There are the categories to help guide you:

- most innovative idea
- reduces the amount going to landfill
- most artistic
- reduces textile waste

Start getting your thinking caps on and get making!

The competition closes Saturday 31 October at 4pm and you must be able to bring your entry into The Good Op Shop (and collect it), at 4 Lewis Drive Castlemaine.

Judging will take place in November.

Let's talk textiles in a circular economy in Mount Alexander Shire!

Come and join us to talk about all the options for keeping textiles in use and out of waste streams in our community.

We're keen to hear about existing programs and community energy to explore new projects - are you currently participating in a group or project using textiles? Do you have an idea to share?

This is a first step toward increasing local options for boosting the lifespan of all textiles!

Where: Castlemaine Community House

When: 1-2:30pm Monday 19th October

What: Facilitated community discussion

Led by Mount Alexander Sustainability Group, the Coat of Many Colours community discussion is a partnership between Mount Alexander Shire Council, Castlemaine Community House and The Good Op Shop.
