A huge welcome to Freddy to the blood bank! πŸ’™

This handsome greyhound has officially completed his first blood donation and is now one of our very special lifesaving heroes! 🩸

Freddy was an absolute superstar throughout the process, helping us collect a precious donation that could help save the life of another dog (or three) in an emergency. 🐢

Every donation makes a difference, and we are so grateful to Freddy and his family for giving back to the veterinary community.

Freddy went home with some great blood donor perks, thanks to our sponsors!

⭐ 1 donation down, more lifesaving adventures to come!

Thank you, Freddy! You're a true Blood Bank Hero! πŸ’™

Some patients arrive at our hospital weighing less than a block of chocolate 🍫

This tiny kitten, just one week old and weighing only 120 grams, was dropped into the care of AES Canberra.

When our Operations Manager, Geoff, arrived at the hospital that morning, he was greeted by the tiny patient and quickly got to work, syringe-feeding milk replacer to ensure the kitten had some much-needed nourishment before continuing on to Canberra Street Cat Alliance.

Sometimes the smallest patients make the biggest impression πŸ’™

We're happy to report the little one has since been transferred and is doing well so far.

Reminder as we spend more time outside β˜€οΈ

Sticks aren't safe fetch toys. They can splinter and cause serious injuries to your pet's mouth, throat or stomach. Some cases even require emergency surgery.

Choose safer, pet-friendly fetch toys to keep playtime fun and injury-free ⚾

🐢 Could your dog be hiding pain?

Dogs are incredibly good at masking discomfort, which can make it difficult to know when something is wrong. From changes in behaviour and appetite to difficulty moving, there are several subtle signs that could indicate your pet is hurting and due for a trip to the vet.

Knowing what to look for can help you get them the care they need sooner and keep them comfortable and happy. πŸ’™

School holidays mean more adventures for our pets... but they can also mean more emergencies.

With pets spending more time out and about, we often see an increase in injuries, tick paralysis cases, snake bites and other unexpected accidents during the holiday period.

Before you head off on your next adventure, take 30 seconds to save your local emergency vet number in your phone. πŸ“± It could make all the difference when every minute counts.

Stay safe and enjoy the school holidays πŸ’™

As the weather warms up, snake activity starts to increase again 🐍

Spring is a time when snakes become more active as they emerge to bask, hunt and breed. It's the perfect time for pet owners to stay alert and be aware of the signs a snake may be nearby.

If you spot a snake, keep pets well away and contact a licensed snake catcher. If your pet is bitten by a snake, contact your local vet immediately.

Today on R U OK? Day, we're reminded that a simple conversation can have a lasting impact πŸ’›

In busy workplaces and everyday life, it’s easy to miss the signs that someone may be struggling. Taking a moment to genuinely check in with a colleague, friend, family member or neighbour can help them feel seen, heard and supported.

Let's make asking "Are you OK?" more than a once-a-year reminder. Start the conversation, listen without judgement, and help create a culture of care every day.

We all know the common signs of mild allergic reactions in pets, like hives, itching, or a runny nose. But do you know how to spot a severe allergic reaction? ⚠️

While uncommon, dogs can experience life-threatening allergic reactions that require immediate veterinary attention. If your dog is showing signs of an allergic reaction, or you suspect they may have been exposed to an allergen, contact your vet straight away. Never take a "wait and see" approach.

Even seemingly mild symptoms can progress to anaphylaxis, particularly with repeated exposure to the same allergen. When it comes to allergic reactions, early treatment can make all the difference πŸ’™

How would you like to hear the advice of a veterinary specialist… FOR FREE?! or even 5!!

This Saturday - Come along to Paws at the Park, so you can do exactly that. We are genuinely overwhelmed by the support of the Gold Coast veterinary community this year. To have so many of our local emergency and specialist veterinary teams getting behind us and sharing their knowledge with our community β€” is pretty incredible.

Across the day you’ll hear from:

🐾 Animal Emergency Centre, our Gold Sponsor β€” Still Wagging: A Guide to Senior Pet Health

🐾 Animal Emergency Service, our Silver Sponsor β€” talking all things *ticks* and what local pet owners need to know.

🐾 SASH, our Silver Sponsor β€” When Good Dogs Have Bad Guts: 5 Minutes with a Veterinary Specialist

🐾 Veterinary Specialist Services, our Bronze Sponsor β€” joining us with their team at their market stall throughout the day.

Not to mention our wonderful team at Pet Wellness Centre, who are not only the people behind Paws at the Park, but will also be offering FREE dental checks on the day… for dogs only, sorry humans! πŸ˜†

Come with questions. Learn something new. Meet the people who are there when our pets need them most.

Every blood transfusion tells a story of kindness 🩸

Animal Emergency Service Carrara and Gold Coast Animal Blood Bank are now including a photo and the name of the incredible donor who gave the blood that helped treat your pet. We hope this small gesture helps you see the amazing community of donor dogs and cats, and their families who make lifesaving transfusions possible.

Behind every blood bag is a wagging tail, a generous heart, and a family who chose to help another pet in need.

To all of our donor heroes - thank you! Your selfless gift is making a real difference, one transfusion at a time ❀️🐢
