🐾 Congratulations, Max! 🎓

A very big congratulations to Max, who has recently graduated from the Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO) Program with DOGS NSW! 🐶🎓

This is something worth celebrating!

Completing a program like this takes time, commitment, patience and plenty of practice — not just from Max, but from his owners too. ❤️

We love seeing owners take the time to invest in their dogs beyond the basics. Training and enrichment aren't just about having a well-behaved dog; they provide opportunities for dogs to learn, problem-solve, build confidence, socialise and spend quality time with their people.

And the best part?
When you do more for your dog, you often find you're doing more for yourself too. 🥰

A walk, a training session, a new game, exploring somewhere different or simply spending time learning together can strengthen that special bond between you and your dog.

At Caringbah Veterinary Hospital, we love encouraging owners to do more with their dogs — because a healthy dog isn't just physically healthy, but mentally enriched and enjoying life too. 🐾

🌟 Great work, Max! We are so proud of you! 🌟

Caring for Our Dogs in Their Golden Years 💛

Our dogs are experts at hiding pain. They can’t tell us when something hurts, and often, the signs can be subtle.
A little slower getting up, less enthusiasm for walks, or simply not moving quite like they used to.

As our dogs enter their senior years, conditions like arthritis become increasingly common. Age, breed, weight, lifestyle and previous injuries can all play a part.

The good news? Pain doesn’t have to be a normal part of getting older. 🐶

A veterinary check-up can help identify early signs of discomfort and, with just a few questions and a thorough examination, your vet can develop a treatment and management plan suited specifically to your dog.

💛 Let’s help our golden oldies stay comfortable, active and happy for as long as possible.

Don’t wait until your dog is obviously in pain — let’s get ahead of it. 🐾

If your dog is slowing down, struggling with stairs, hesitating to jump, or simply not quite themselves, it may be time for a senior health check.

🐱 Tell us your favourite cat coat colour! 🎨

Did you know cats can have a huge variety of coat colours and patterns? From tabbies and tortoiseshells to ginger, black, white, blue and everything in between. Their beautiful coats are shaped by some fascinating genetics!

And here’s a fun fact about our little calico friend… 🧡🖤🤍
Calico cats are almost always female because the genes responsible for their orange and black colouring are linked to the X chromosome. Very occasionally, male calico cats can occur too!

This adorable little calico came in for her kitten vaccinations, an important part of helping build protection against serious diseases as she grows. 🩺💉

Kittens need a full primary vaccination course, with the timing of each visit determined by their age and vaccine schedule. Once their kitten course is complete, ongoing boosters are recommended according to their individual lifestyle and veterinary advice.

Of course, she also received plenty of cuddles from our team… 😹💕

So, what’s your favourite cat coat colour or pattern?

🐾 Meet OJ ❤️

Over the years, we’ve gotten to know OJ very well, and now in his senior years, it’s especially rewarding to see him doing so well.

Through regular health checks, a specialised care plan and plenty of positive reinforcement, we’ve worked together to help keep OJ comfortable and give him stability in his health.

And perhaps the best part? OJ actually enjoys coming to the vet! 🥰

He gets to see the familiar faces he knows, receive plenty of attention and leave with a few positive experiences along the way.

Of course, we don’t want our patients to be sick or needing to visit us all the time. But when they do need us, we’re always here to help through every stage of their lives. ❤️

Here’s to keeping our senior pets happy, comfortable and enjoying their golden years. 🐶✨

CAN YOU GUESS THE ANIMAL?

Here’s a few hints:
🐾 It’s not a mammal like a dog or cat
🇦🇺 It’s an Australian native species
👅 It has a very unique colour inside its mouth!

Think you know what it is?

This X-ray gives us a pretty cool look at what’s happening beneath the scales, with the bones and skeletal anatomy clearly visible.

X-rays are an important diagnostic tool in veterinary medicine, helping our vets investigate injuries, illness and changes that we can’t see from the outside.

At Caringbah Veterinary Hospital, we have the capability to perform both X-rays and ultrasounds to help care for your furry, feathered and scaled companions. ❤️

❄️ Meet Winter! 🐾

With a coat this fluffy, it's easy to see why Huskies are built for adventure!

Huskies have a dense double coat that helps protect them in both hot and cold weather. That's why, unless medically necessary, double-coated dogs shouldn't be shaved. Their coat is designed to do an important job.

One thing all that fluff can hide? Ticks. 🕷️

After every bush walk, spend a few minutes giving your dog a tick check:
✔️ Feel right down to the skin.
✔️ Check the ears, neck, under the collar, armpits, groin and between the toes.
✔️ Your dog might even think it's an extra massage!

Winter stopped by to stay up to date with her parasite prevention. 💚

Is your dog's tick prevention up to date? If you're unsure, give our friendly team a call on 9525 8888. We're always happy to help.

Warning: Extended eye contact may result in giving extra treats. 👀❤️

Dogs have evolved alongside humans for thousands of years, and those irresistible puppy eyes aren't just coincidence.

Research suggests dogs raise their inner eyebrows to create expressions that humans naturally respond to - helping strengthen the bond between us.

Looking at this little face... we'd say it's working perfectly. 🐶

🐾 Have you taught your dog the cue "Look"?

"Look" is a fantastic skill for dogs of all ages. By rewarding your dog for making eye contact, you're building focus, encouraging engagement, and making training fun. It can even help redirect their attention away from distractions when you're out and about.

Has your dog mastered "the look" yet?

👃 Did you know? Every dog's nose print is as unique as a human fingerprint.

Your dog's nose isn't just adorable—it's an incredible piece of nature. While we experience the world mainly through our eyes, dogs explore it through their noses. Their sense of smell is estimated to be tens of thousands of times more sensitive than ours, helping them recognise familiar people, detect changes in their environment, and even pick up on scents we can't imagine.

For intelligent breeds like the Border Collie, using their nose is just as important as physical exercise. Sniffing walks, training games and spending quality time together all help keep their minds active and strengthen the bond you share.

A healthy nose is also a window into your dog's wellbeing. If you ever notice persistent discharge, swelling, bleeding, changes in pigmentation, or a sudden loss of interest in sniffing, it's worth having them checked by your veterinarian.

At Caringbah Veterinary Hospital, we love helping dogs of every age and breed stay healthy, happy and ready for their next adventure. Whether it's a routine health check or something that just doesn't seem quite right, we're here for all creatures great and small. ❤️🐾

🐾 It's the little moments that make our day. 🐾

Nothing brightens the clinic quite like a happy patient walking through the door with a wagging tail, ready to say hello.

We love seeing pets who feel relaxed, confident and excited to visit. It's a reminder that veterinary care is about more than medicine -it's about building trust and creating positive experiences that last a lifetime.

Those little moments don't just make your pet's day, they make ours too.

If you're passing by with your dog or cat, feel free to stop in and say hello. If our team isn't busy with emergencies or surgery, we'd love to meet your furry family member.

After all, healthy pets are important, but happy pets are pretty special too. 🐾💙

🦜 Avian Influenza (H5 Bird Flu) Update

H5 avian influenza has now been detected in wild birds in Western Australia, South Australia and New South Wales. While there have been no detections in NSW poultry, biosecurity remains an important part of protecting both wildlife and our domestic animals.

If you find multiple sick or dead birds or other wildlife:
• Avoid contact.
• Record what you see.
• Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

As part of our hospital's biosecurity protocols, we are temporarily not accepting wildlife patients until further notice. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to protect the health of all the animals in our care.

Thank you for helping keep our community and wildlife safe.🐾
