This morning at Airlie Beach Veterinary Surgery was ALL systems go! 😂🙌

🗑️ Professional rubbish-removal legends clearing out the old
🍃 Boss lady Katie getting stuck in with the leaf blower and gurney
🐾 And all while we were OPEN and seeing our gorgeous patients as usual! 😂

There is a LOT happening behind the scenes at the moment, and we are so incredibly proud of what we are creating. ❤️

As a locally owned veterinary clinic, we are investing considerably back into our practice to give our wonderful clients and their much-loved pets the best clinic and experience we possibly can.

A fresh new facelift, some very exciting changes and a whole lot of love going into this little place. 🐾

We are also incredibly grateful for the friends, family and wonderful tribe behind us who have rolled up their sleeves, encouraged us, helped out and backed our vision from the beginning. It really does take a village, and we feel very lucky to have ours helping bring this vision to fruition. ❤️

And we’re definitely not finished yet… 👀✨

🎨 Pardon our paint… we’re getting a little glow-up! ✨🐾

If you’ve visited us over the last few weeks, you may have noticed things looking a little more chaotic than usual!

We’ve had the very talented Kate in giving Airlie Beach Veterinary Surgery a beautiful fresh coat of paint, helping us make the clinic feel even brighter, smarter and more welcoming for our wonderful clients and their much-loved pets. ❤️

There may have been the odd bit of furniture in a strange spot, areas temporarily out of action and, yes, our very patient clients have quite literally been stepping around tins of paint while Kate works her magic! 😂🎨

Thank you so much for bearing with the disruption and navigating the makeover with us.

We think it’s looking absolutely fantastic, and we can’t wait for you all to enjoy the fresh new look! 🥰

Friday gave us one of those perfectly timed little clinic moments. 🧡🐾

Dr Macauley had these two gorgeous pups booked in for their vaccinations, one straight after the other… and somehow they’d both managed to choose a vet who matched them beautifully. 😂

Auburn curls everywhere, with three seriously impressive heads of hair in the consult room at once. 🧡🧡🧡

Naturally, photos had to happen.

We’re still deciding who wore the look best… but we have a feeling the puppies might just have Macauley beaten on the cuteness front. 😉 😍🐶

🦎 No fur? No worries! 🪶🐍

Dr Nat, one of our senior vets and co-owners of Airlie Beach Veterinary Surgery, has a bit of a special interest when it comes to our scaled and feathered family members.

Here he is today treating this rather impressive lace monitor, who needed a little veterinary intervention and some expert care. 💚

Nat’s love and knowledge of birds in particular goes back a long way. His dad kept numerous aviaries with both native and exotic bird species, so feathered patients have been part of his world for as long as he can remember!

He has also undertaken extra research in avian medicine, including a scientific paper looking at respiratory disease and nutrition in birds, as well as being involved with breeding programs for the critically endangered Orange-bellied Parrot. 🦜

So while dogs and cats make up most of our day, it’s lovely to have someone on our team who is very much at home when a patient arrives with scales, feathers… or something a little more unusual!

And judging by that thumbs up, we think Dr Nat was pretty happy with today’s patient too. 👍😂

💍🌴 EXCITING NEWS FROM BALI! 🌴💍

You may have noticed our wonderful Practice Manager and co-owner Katie had been missing from the clinic for over a week, enjoying a very well-deserved holiday in Bali! ☀️🍹

We’re pleased to report that we survived without her… just! 😂 And thankfully, she arrived home and was straight back into work yesterday, keeping us all in line again!

But Katie didn’t come home from Bali with just a tan and some holiday memories… she came home ENGAGED! 💍🥰

A huge congratulations to Katie and the love of her life, Callum, on their engagement! We couldn’t be happier for you both and wish you a lifetime filled with love, laughter, adventures and every happiness together. ❤️

And of course, this means their little family is officially one step closer to making it official — including their much-loved dog Cash 🐶 and cat Grey Goose 🐱, who we’re sure will have very important roles in the wedding planning! 😂💕

We’re very glad to have our Practice Manager back where she belongs… although we suspect there might now be a little wedding planning happening between jobs! 😉💒

🩺 Learning, connecting & keeping our knowledge up to date! 🐾

What a fantastic weekend having the NQAVA Veterinary Conference right here in beautiful Airlie Beach! 🌴🌊

Dr Tess and Lara enjoyed the conference dinner on Saturday night, catching up with colleagues and friends from across the veterinary profession. Then on Sunday, Dr Nat and Dr Tess headed along to the lectures for a full day of learning and professional development. 📚🐶🐱

A particularly valuable part of the day was hearing the latest updates on leptospirosis, an important disease for us here in the Whitsundays and one that we unfortunately do see locally. Staying up to date with the latest research, recommendations and prevention strategies helps us continue to provide the very best care and advice for our patients and their families.

Veterinary conferences are about so much more than lectures. They are also a wonderful opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenging cases, learn from one another and enjoy the collegiality of our veterinary community. ❤️

A great weekend of learning, networking and catching up with colleagues, made even better by getting to do it here in our own beautiful backyard!

‼️ Ticks are out and about ‼️ We have seen multiple cases this week of tick paralysis in dogs 😭 Please make sure your dog is up to date with a preventative. We highly recommend the yearly tick preventative injection which is very effective - and means you know your dog is protected because you can’t forget the monthly tablet, nor can they throw it up or wash it off! Ask your vet for more information. Paralysis ticks kill dogs. Prevention is way cheaper than a midnight vet call out!

While the rest of us were enjoying our weekend, Dr Macauley and Nurse Gemma were working incredibly hard, providing emergency, life saving veterinary care to pets across the Whitsundays. ❤️‍🩹🐶🐱

An enormous shout out to these two absolute legends. 🙌 They had a huge weekend, and we’re very lucky to have such a dedicated team who step up when our patients and their families need us most.

We might not always take ourselves too seriously… but we certainly take looking after your pets seriously. 😂❤️

When 2.5 kg of Jellybean met 54 kg of beautiful Sunny today… 🥹❤️

A mere 51.5 kg between them and possibly the cutest size difference we’ve had in the clinic for a while!

Sunny was such a beautiful gentle giant meeting our littlest team member, while Jellybean seemed to be thinking, “Good grief… is THAT a dog?!” 😂

From teeny tiny to absolutely magnificent, we really do get to love them all. ❤️
