šŸ• OFF LEASH DOESN’T MEAN OUT OF CONTROL

We love seeing our four-legged locals out enjoying the Whitsundays, but we’ve had an increase in reports of dogs not being kept under effective control in public areas, particularly around Cannonvale Beach.

A reminder that even in a designated off-leash area, your dog still needs to be under your control. That means keeping your dog within sight, supervising it and making sure it responds when called.

If your dog doesn’t reliably come back when called, keep the lead on. It only takes a few seconds for an uncontrolled dog to frighten someone, approach another dog that doesn’t want the attention or cause an incident.

Let’s keep our beaches and parks safe and enjoyable for everyone – including our dogs. 🐾

I gave Missy's mum dog hair chalk for the grand kids to use. They did an amazing job. Di said that the chalk didn't get on the kids hands. Most of it washed off with just water, the rest I gave her a bit of a scrub and it came off. Best part, the kids had a ball and Missy enjoyed the attention. 🤣🤣

🐾 A big recommendation for Kerstin’s Animal Connections from Frankie and Harley Quinn ā¤ļø

Today was Frankie’s monthly appointment with Kerstin, and Frankie KNOWS when it’s her turn. The minute Kerstin walks through the door, she is so excited to see her.

Frankie is now 10 and, although she’s still a pretty fit old girl, she’s starting to slow down a little through her back end and has some arthritis in her hips. Her regular monthly treatments with Kerstin are making such a difference to her. It’s become part of keeping our older girl comfortable, mobile and enjoying life.

Today, we decided to throw Miss Harley Quinn into the mix too. šŸ˜‚

We’ve been concentrating on Harley’s allergies lately, with her runny eyes, paw chewing and itchy tummy, so we asked Kerstin if she could give her a quick look over while she was here.

Turns out our little allergic girl may have a couple of other things going on too. Kerstin found some discomfort around her right hip, possibly some early arthritis, and her right knee wasn’t moving quite as nicely as it should.

Now, anyone who knows cattle dogs and kelpies will understand Harley. šŸ˜‚ She knows Kerstin. She’s met her plenty of times. But she’s still very much a ā€œyou may enter my house, but I’m in charge hereā€ kind of girl.

Well… that lasted about five minutes.

Before we knew it, Harley was completely relaxed. Eyes rolling, tongue licking, yawning, melting into the treatment and absolutely loving every minute of it. ā¤ļø

It was lovely to see just how quickly she trusted Kerstin and settled into what she was doing.

So now we have TWO Kerstin’s Bodyworks girls. 🐾🐾

Both are booked in again next month, and I think it’s safe to say Frankie and Harley will be very happy to see Kerstin walking through the door again.

For us, it’s not just about treating something when there’s a problem. As our dogs get older, it’s about keeping them comfortable, moving well and picking up those little changes before they become bigger ones.

Highly recommend Kerstin’s animal connections, especially if you have an older dog who’s starting to get a little stiff or slow down. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

šŸ SNAKE AWARENESS | SAVE THESE EMERGENCY CONTACTS 🐾

As the weather warms up, snakes become more active around our homes, gardens, walking areas and bushland.

We have put together this quick-save list of local vets and licensed snake catchers across the Whitsundays and Bowen.

If you see a snake:

• Keep people and pets well away
• Bring pets inside if you can do so safely
• Do not touch, approach, catch or kill it
• Keep an eye on it from a safe distance if possible
• Call a licensed snake catcher
• Call-out charges may apply

If you suspect your pet has been bitten:

• Keep them calm and as still as possible
• Carry them rather than letting them walk
• Call a vet immediately
• Head straight to the clinic

For safe local photo identification and advice, join Snakes of the Whitsundays:
https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1HWiRyCT9G/

Only take a photo from a safe distance. Never delay veterinary care to identify a snake.

🐾 Dog allergy question for our Pongo’s families

After yesterday’s post about Harley and her itchy skin, paws, ears and hot spots, I thought this might be a good one to ask everyone.

What problems has your dog struggled with?

Itchy skin? Grass allergies? Ye**ty ears? Hot spots? Paw chewing? Constant scratching?

And what have you found actually helps?

Do you prefer more natural options such as diet changes, supplements, oils or herbal products? Or has your dog needed traditional veterinary treatment such as Apoquel or Cytopoint?

I’d love to hear what you’ve tried, what worked, and what didn’t.

Every dog is different, so this isn’t about giving medical advice. It’s just about sharing experiences and perhaps helping other dog owners discover things they can discuss with their vet. 🐶🐾

🐾 A little health update on Harley Quinn

We think Harley might be dealing with grass allergies. She's had a few hot spots pop up, watery and itchy eyes, itchy ears, lots of scratching, and she's been chewing at her paws.

I've been researching natural support options and I'm going to trial her on Pure Majesty Dog Yeast Support Drops — oral drops you add to food, containing oregano extract along with other ingredients aimed at supporting dogs with itchy skin, ears and paws.

This is just a trial for now! I'll be keeping a close eye on her symptoms over the next few weeks to see if we notice any improvement.

šŸ’› A little heads-up for everyone šŸ’›

Just a quick note to say — over the coming weeks there may be a few appointment changes here and there. Nothing to worry about, just some family stuff going on behind the scenes.

Leica will always try to give as much notice as possible, and get everyone sorted quickly if a reschedule is needed.

Thanks so much for your patience and understanding, as always. It means a lot šŸ¾ā¤ļø
