Please be advised that as of 20th October 2026, we will be closing our books to new clients.
We did not make this decision lightly, but must consider our current work capacity, as well as the health of our team and our patients.

We are taking this temporary measure to ensure we are able to give the best patient care possible to our patients, and will reopen our books as soon as we are able.

We thank you all for your understanding.

A small puncture wound can turn into a big problem.

Animals hold lots of harmful bacteria in their mouths and claws, and can carry diseases that are transferred through blood or saliva.
For cats who find themselves in disagreements with other cats or wildlife when outdoors, these bacteria can be introduced into their bodies during fights and lead to infections.

Infections can develop into painful wounds or lumps of pus, which require medical attention to resolve.

Signs to watch for include:
🐾 A painful swelling or lump
🐾 An open wound that's oozing pus or has a bad smell
🐾 Limping or reluctance to move
🐾 Lethargy
🐾 Reduced appetite

Abscesses often develop 2–7 days after a fight, and the bite wound that caused them can be small and easy to miss.
If you are suspicious that your cat has an abscess, we recommend not waiting for it to burst—book a veterinary appointment as soon as possible.

Treatments often involve draining the abscess, cleaning the infected area, and providing pain relief and antibiotics.
In some cases however, a wound may be more severe and require surgical intervention.

The sooner a cat is treated, the lower the risk of the infection becoming worse, and the more likely their recovery will be quick and comfortable.
