Absolute day made! 🥹 We had Charlie the bunny visit yesterday, and the moment he climbed into my arms for a snuggle, my heart melted. He was so gentle, sweet, and calm. Enjoy that seed bar, little guy! 🐰✨

Spring in Canberra is beautiful. But for a lot of dogs and cats, it's also genuinely uncomfortable — and many pet owners don't realise why.

Pets can get seasonal allergies just like humans. The difference is they rarely sneeze. Instead, it tends to show up on their skin.

As wattles bloom and pollen builds, here's what to watch for:

- Excessive paw licking after walks (pollen settles between the toes)
- Rubbing their face on carpet or furniture
- Red or watery eyes
- Ear scratching more than usual, or recurring ear infections
- Skin redness around the belly, groin, and armpits
- A dull or dry coat

A few things that genuinely help:

Wipe paws after every walk. A damp cloth takes two minutes and removes most allergens before they cause more irritation.

Shift walks to the evening. Pollen tends to peak between 5am and 10am.

Rinse the coat after outdoor time, especially if your dog loves rolling in grass.

Omega-3s support skin health. A good fish oil or omega-rich food can help calm the inflammatory itch cycle.

Keep bedding washed regularly — pollen travels inside on fur.

If symptoms are mild, these steps often manage things well. But if you're seeing persistent scratching, skin lesions, or recurring ear infections, it's worth a vet conversation. Seasonal allergies respond really well to treatment when managed properly.

We're happy to chat about grooming tools, skin-supporting foods, and enrichment ideas for high-pollen days. Come in and say hello.

Yevette from YoPaws! 🐕✨

Yevette is changing lives right here in Canberra through her assistance dog coaching, and she has been selected as a finalist for the Lifeline Canberra Spirit of Canberra Awards (Spirit of Hope Award).

She’s now up for the People’s Choice Award, and every single vote counts!

🗳️ Cast your vote for Yevette Ho here

Let’s get behind someone who gives so much to our dog community! 💜

We have some pretty special news. 💙

I’ve been selected as a finalist for the 2026 Lifeline Canberra Spirit of Canberra Awards — Spirit of Hope Award.

This one means a lot.

YoPaws grew from my own lived experience, from Yoshi, and from wanting to make the assistance dog journey a little less overwhelming and lonely for the people coming after us.

What started as something incredibly personal has grown into a community where I get to help people understand their dogs, build stronger partnerships and find a pathway forward that actually works for them.

To have that work recognised under an award called Spirit of Hope feels particularly special.

And apparently there’s one more thing… 😅

All finalists are also in the running for the People’s Choice Award, which is decided by public vote.

So, if YoPaws, YoshiPaws or something I’ve shared has helped you, taught you something, made you feel seen, or simply made you smile — I’d be incredibly grateful for your vote. 💜🐾

Thank you to everyone who has supported this slightly crazy journey, our clients, our community, the people who have trusted me with their dogs, and everyone who believed YoPaws could become something.

And, of course, Yoshi — CEO, assistance dog, business partner and the reason much of this exists in the first place. 🐕💚

Whatever happens on awards night, being named a finalist is already something I’m incredibly proud of.
