Beauty. This is Posy. She is a joey who was orphaned when tiny, then rescued and raised by humans. She's been back in the wild now for nearly 10 months and going so well! She comes back morning and night with her little mob for snacks of roo-nuts and a cuddle from her humans. Thanks to all the humans who helped Posy get to where she is today. She has been cared for under licence with Wildcare ❤🦘

Every one of us living on this vast continent, Australia, lives on what was once kangaroo habitat.

What a tragedy it is that our governments - both past and present - demonstrate zero tolerance for wildlife - and kangaroos in particular - that 'gets in the way' of another concrete suburb or road and other infrastructure.

Canberra has many designated green spaces - nature reserves - but kangaroos are not safe even there.

In all the years that the ACT Labor Government has been in power, there's almost zero evidence that the government's decision makers have considered constructing over passes or underpasses, as the landscape is rapidly covered in our ''little boxes'' on hillsides, fragmenting wildlife habitat.

As Canberra's population grows to 500,000 humans, the numbers of kangaroos reduces dramatically - shot and killed, their joeys bludgeoned - because in 2026 - this is the best they can do.

A truly gorgeous photo by one of our followers - Tingles and Tangles with Mum Bingles and (likely Dad, Red). One wonderful success story of a joey rescued and raised - and returning home (as she regularly does) to show off her twins. 🦘🦘❤

Twins are exhausting! Bingles was rescued as a little joey in 2018, and released in 2019. This year, she has presented us with twins (Tingles and Tangles). Likely father Red hanging protectively in the background.

Kangaroos have close family ties. They are also very welcoming of new comers, which makes them all the more appealing. Our released joeys are readily accepted by the wild kangaroos that reside here.
Here is a frequently seen sight - mum, joey and last year's (daughter) joey. Some people claim kangaroos are fast breeders. No. Almost always only one joey per year. This little girl will be fully dependent on mum until she's 18 months old. Love how they stick together. These three are wild ones and they took off once little joey thought we were too close for comfort! ❤🦘🦘🦘

Just had to share this from Kangaroos Alive: this photo! And a plea to participate in the survey and submissions to the NSW Government to ACT on all 23 recommendations from the Inquiry into the Welfare of Kangaroos and Wallabies (2021) - instead of bowing down to the ''industry'' conducting the hideous commercial killing of kangaroos, wallaroos and wallabies in NSW. The scale of killing is SHOCKING and an absolute disgrace. 💔💔💔

The NSW Government has released a draft plan intent on continuing the cruelty, suffering and killing of kangaroos, with zero attempt at coexistence. Kangaroos Alive is submitting an alternative plan that is built on coexistence, true conservation and non-lethal management - one that fully protects our national icon, rather than just focusing on killing vital Australian wildlife for a dwindling commercial trade.

The consultation is open until 4th September.
We're asking you to write a submission - even a short one makes a real difference in showing your advocacy for kangaroos.

The 2021 NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into the Health and Wellbeing of Kangaroos and Other Macropods made 23 recommendations.

Five years later, only 2 have been implemented, and neither in full.

Yet the NSW Government is proposing another five-year plan that continues the large-scale commercial killing of kangaroos and joeys without addressing the serious failures identified by its own Parliamentary Inquiry.

It's always a hard road, fighting for wildlife. It shouldn't be that way - but it is. People who have no vested interests and only want to stop cruelty and persecution of wildlife, are up against powerful interest groups and politicians who have conflicting interests - more development, more deals to be done, more ''progress'' to be made, with little room for wildlife in the picture.

Some days, you just have to focus on what you can save, can appreciate, can contribute to. Here is a beautiful little eastern grey joey who is being raised in care by humans who greatly value her life and her species. She is a Wildcare joey being raised under Wildcare's licence to rescue, rehabilitate and raise wildlife. ❤🦘

Wildcare Queanbeyan is looking for macropod carers! If you have previous training and experience in caring for kangaroo and wallaby joeys and feel now is the time to put those skills (and a whole love of love!) into action please contact Wildcare.
Wildcare covers a large area of 22,000 kms around the ACT.
(Sadly, due to the ACT Government's Controlled Native Species Declaration against Eastern Grey Kangaroos, their joeys are unable to be raised in Canberra). ❤🦘🦘
