Last year we made a post asking our followers if they knew the la Perouse snake show was still running. The response was great, a trip down memory lane for some and a new place for others to attend for a day out.
La Perouse is home to the longest running snake show in the world! If we're correct, the shows began in the early 1900s. For many years, they were run by the Cann family. George Cann, after returning from WWI in 1919, resumed the weekly snake shows at the La Perouse loop.
Fast forward to 1965, and sadly, George Cann passed away (not snake-related). Shortly after, his sons George Jr. and John took over the shows, hosting them on Sundays and public holidays. John Cann was the last member of the Cann family to perform in the snake pit, concluding his shows in 2010.
Since then, several handlers have worked to keep the tradition alive, continuing to host snake shows and educate the public. Live Reptile Displays proudly carries on this legacy.
Rob Ambrose has been doing shows there for probably on a decade now.
This coming Monday the 8th, i get the honor to jump in the pit to do some shows along side Rob, and this is all thanks to Andrew (Live Reptile Displays).
If you and your kids are looking for a fun afternoon or want to witness a piece of Aussie history, head down this Monday to La Perouse loop and come say hello!
