I am still in environment mode after National tree planting day ( sadly no volunteers turned up) but adding more native plants to our various garden beds ( I did a planting of salt bush along the emu fence beside the new shed and various native vines, low shrubs and ground covers near the emus and all mallee tree tube stock around the property. I also have some exotics too add to my Bali style back yard garden but they will go in as soon as we finish the huge trees down clean up. It’s a big job and Dave is getting that done due to my back troubles.
Appart from animals and my passion for wildlife I also love my environment. Greening up our property is a number one priority and developing micro climates that improve this very marginal dry mallee area is my hope for our little oasis and sanctuary.
With very shallow soil / sand lol and limestone shelves in planes around our place is has been a huge challenge/struggle getting plants to survive. Costly too in money with loss and my heart as those frosts hit and kill veggies and flowers, drought and heat waves hitting with 50 plus degrees in summer and water shortage has impacted success of native trees and the gardens.
Many would have given up by now but I just keep trying.
Without each of us considering the environment and it’s welfare the love of wildlife is really mute as without their viable places to live and thrive we will loose all our animals, birds and reptiles. Australia has the highest extinction rate of the world.
It is up to us humans to take a stand and even if you are in a flat, a unit or a house in the city or country towns you can join people in helping with tree planting and re vegetation programmes Australia wide.
If you are keen to get some fresh air, light exercise and join a team you can contact places like us, farms putting in shelter belts, trees for life and your local Landcare office and landscspe boards and offer your help to re veg our amazing country.
We are just a drop in the ocean but every drop fills it.
If you would like to volunteer as a helper working on our re Veg programmes, help in our veggie garden or orchard or maybe be a wildlife care volunteer you could help in many ways please give me a call. Join our working beez and Artscape days and become one of the Wildwood Park Family, uou ll always be welcome.
