Ollie clearly had his priorities sorted during his visit with us! 🥰🐾🤍

Forget the usual clinic routine… Ollie had one very important mission — to find our receptionist, Katelin, and get as many cuddles as possible! 😂

He was definitely making himself comfortable and soaking up every second of the attention. We’re pretty sure Katelin didn’t mind one bit either! 🐶💕

Sometimes all you need to make your day better is a few cuddles, a comfy lap and someone willing to give you ALL the love. 🥹🐾

Safe to say, Ollie was very happy with his choice of receptionist! 😂🤍

A little extra TLC for Meleys! 🐾🧡

Sweet Meleys came to Algester Vet for her desexing procedure and enjoyed some extra cuddles with Nurse Steph while recovering from her anaesthetic.

Did you know that pets can feel a little sleepy, confused or unsettled as they wake up from anaesthesia?

That's why the recovery period is such an important part of their care. Our nurses closely monitor their breathing, temperature and comfort as they wake up, making sure they're recovering safely.

And sometimes, a little extra reassurance and a cuddle is just what they need. ❤️

Although looking at these two, we're not entirely sure who was enjoying the cuddles more! 😂

Meet Duke! 🐾💙

This handsome Border Collie came to visit us to have his aural haematoma repaired, and of course, he didn’t have to face it alone! 🥹

Duke brought along his emotional support fox for a little extra comfort and moral support. 🦊🤍

We think every hospital stay is better with a best friend by your side! 🥰🐶

We had the absolute pleasure of hanging out with little Mochi while he was in with us to get desexed. 🐾✨

Safe to say, he stole a few hearts during his stay! 🥰💙

Even the brave ones sometimes need a comfort friend 🐾

Little Winx, a 2-year-old Shih Tzu cross, was in at Algester Vet for her desexing and decided the day would be much easier with a little friend close by.

We love these small moments because surgery days can feel unfamiliar for pets, and sometimes comfort comes from the simplest things.

Winx did beautifully and had plenty of reassurance along the way. 🐾

🐾 PET HEALTH EXPLAINED

“How do I know if my senior pet is still having more good days than difficult ones?”

This can be one of the hardest questions to answer.
Especially because there often isn't one big moment that tells you things have changed.
Instead, it can be lots of little things.

They don't finish breakfast anymore.
Getting up takes a little longer.
They've stopped following you from room to room.
Walks are shorter.
They sleep more.
They seem unsettled at night.
Or they simply don't seem to enjoy the things they once did.

None of these things on their own necessarily means your pet has a poor quality of life.

What matters is the bigger picture — and whether their days are changing.

It can help to pay attention to things like comfort, appetite, movement, sleep, toileting, interaction with the family and whether they still show interest in the things they enjoy.

And because these changes can happen gradually, keeping a simple note of good days and difficult days can sometimes make a pattern easier to see.

You don't have to work this out on your own.

If you're wondering whether something is ageing, pain, illness, or simply a change that needs a little more support, talk to your vet.

Sometimes there are things we can do to make an older pet much more comfortable.

And sometimes the conversation becomes about what comfort and quality of life look like from here.

Either way, your observations at home matter enormously.

💜 Caring for pets. Supporting their people.
