One thing many deaf dog owners notice is that their dogs often like to sleep touching them. A paw on a foot, a head on a lap, or a body pressed up close isn’t just about cuddles—it can be one of the ways deaf dogs stay connected to the people and animals they trust. 🐾❤️🤟
A lot of people don’t realise that this is quite common for deaf dogs.
Because Hank can’t hear me moving around, getting up, or walking away, he relies on his other senses to understand what’s happening around him. Touch is a huge part of how deaf dogs experience the world. By staying in contact with me, he can feel when I move and know where I am, even while he’s asleep.
For many deaf dogs, sleeping close to their owners or canine companions provides comfort, security, and a way to stay connected. It’s one of the clever ways they adapt and navigate a world without sound.
Sometimes people see a deaf dog and focus on what they can’t do, but dogs like Hank remind us every day that they simply find different ways to communicate, learn, and feel safe.
So if you ever see Hank glued to my side while he’s sleeping, he’s not just being cuddly—he’s using one of his superpowers. ❤️🐾🤟
