🏝What do you do when it's 5 knots on the reef and you'd rather be fishing? 🎣

This handsome fellow is 7 months old and full of energy, but in his enthusiasm for all things fishing, you'll see he is also full of something else... check out the xrays!

Inexplicably, some dogs find lead sinkers irresistible and apparently, delicious. Unfortunately, lead is very toxic to dogs.

Happily for this young fellow, his humans worked out what he'd been up to and they knew exactly what to do. He was promptly brought in for an emergency consultation and the decontamination process began. Our veterinary team worked to remove as much lead from his system as possible. We won't go into too many details (hint: 🤮+💩 = 🙂) but suffice to say, it was a lesson well learnt.

🫵Pro tip: lock up the fishing gear in case your four-legged friend takes their own initiative with the sinkers, and enjoy the beautiful weather at this time of year!😎

Congratulations on your retirement, Rocko!

Staff dog Rocko has just turned 7, and he has officially retired from donating blood! He has donated 7 times in the last 4 years, and in doing so, he has saved a LOT of very sick FNQ dogs.

Rocko is
🐶 a much loved staff pet
🐶 a great guard dog
🐶 a lover of steak (and he has stolen steak from people many times!)
🐶 a big fan of getting wet and playing in water
🐶 a great big brother to his little Border Collie brother, Panda

♥️Thank you so much for your kindness, Rocko. We love you! ♥️

When you work with animals, you need to be adaptable.

And if your patient wants to sleep next to the nurses on the bedding shelf instead of on the bed you got ready... well, we can be flexible 😘

🙏Thank you to everyone who applied to join our canine blood donor registry 🙏

If we haven't contacted you yet, we might call on you soon! We've now received enough donations to top up the blood bank and treat the critically ill patients in hospital over the busy period.

But the hard work isn't over.

We maintain a registry so we have lots of people to call when stocks are low or when we've had to use a lot of blood for an emergency. Donors travel, their owners have work commitments, and we don't expect our donors to be available like we are, 24/7. We should also share that our own pets donate, too!

With whole blood donations, fresh is best. Having a list of donors means we can offer life saving treatments when they're needed, and top up the blood bank at a time that's convenient to you and your pet.

THANK YOU from all of us. We appreciate your generosity 🤗

📢 Calling all reception and front of house legends: what do you think about joining us, one day a week? 📢

As our Saturday Receptionist, you'll be responsible for greeting pets and people, even when they're not at their very best.

Can you show your compassion to people who are stressed? We're looking for a proud multitasker who cares about pets and people, and who will be the link between our clinical staff and the clients we serve. You'll help keep our busy veterinary hospital running at peak efficiency.

Veterinary reception or animal related experience is not essential, but would be advantage.

Is this something you could do?

Please email us at [email protected] with your CV and a brief summary of how you'd like to see yourself in this role.

😃 We are open, unbiased employers with a wonderful diverse team from late teens to 70's, and we're looking to welcome one more person in June 😃

❗Applications close at 11pm on May 21st ❗

As Emergency Vets 24/7 is a proud partner with Vets for Climate Action (VfCA), we would like to share just one of the extra initiatives we took during ZerOctober.

In addition to a whole program full of environmentally sustainable initiatives that we follow (more on this later), our Director, Dr Richard Page, vowed to cycle to work for each of his shifts in October. What a commitment! And he doesn’t just live around the corner: it’s a 25km one-way commute, to be precise. Riding to work, catching a bus or car pooling helps lower damaging CO2 emissions generated by the amount of vehicles on the road every single day. By limiting the amount of vehicles on the road, we help reduce the negative impact on the environment.

Good work, Richard! We are proud of you and your commitment to our wonderful environment. We wonder what’s next...? 💚
