Howling for the protection of dingoes from the steps of Victorian Parliament 📢
Recently, we joined Defend the Wild, Dingo Culture and the Dingo Conservancy at Victorian Parliament to continue an incredibly important conversation, better protection for dingoes in Victoria.
The day included screenings of Moort: Calling Dingo Back to Country and Wooleen: Utilising Dingoes as a Management Strategy, bringing together stories, knowledge and ideas that challenge the way we think about dingoes and their place in this country.
Ecologically, dingoes are Australia’s native apex land predator and play an incredibly important role in maintaining healthy, balanced ecosystems.
But this conversation is about much more than ecology.
For First Nations people, dingoes hold deep cultural and spiritual significance. They are known as the Boss of Country, connected to culture and community and deserve to live on Country as they have for thousands of years.
Protecting dingoes isn’t simply about protecting another species. It’s about listening to culture, respecting their place on Country and recognising the role they have always played in the Australian landscape.
For us, being a voice for animals means more than educating people about them. Sometimes it means showing up, speaking up and helping challenge the way we treat them.
A huge thank you to Defend the Wild, Dingo Culture, the Dingo Conservancy, Yaraan Bundle, David Po***ck, Professor Euan Ritchie, Nina Taylor MP and everyone continuing to advocate for a future where dingoes are understood, respected and protected.
There’s still plenty of work to do.
Good thing we’ve got a pretty loud howl. 🐺
