Co-operative Care đŸ«¶đŸ»
Teaching your dog to cooperate with handling exercises is an important part of their training. Getting them comfortable with having their eyes, nose, ears, paws, and body checked helps make vet visits safer and less stressful for everyone involved. One of the most useful skills you can teach is a chin rest, where your dog gently places their chin in your hand and remains still while being examined. This gives your dog a choice to participate, builds trust, and makes routine health checks much easier throughout their life.

Play is a vital part of the training process. In a controlled environment, it allows us to safely introduce excitement and adrenaline, helping dogs learn how to regulate their responses. By practising this, we build muscle memory that supports calmer, more thoughtful behaviour when situations don’t go as planned in public.
Teaching dogs how to manage their adrenaline and stay engaged is key to long-term success.

How to teach MIDDLE - it’s a handy one to keep your dog safe and busy places!
Here’s a quick step-by-step on how to teach your dog MIDDLE running in between your legs. Some people call this safety, centre, or middle the name is totally up to you.
Skills like this are incredibly handy when you need to move your dog away from people’s feet and keep them safe in busy spaces like shops, markets, or crowded footpaths.
In the next tutorial, I’ll break down how to hold your dog in the middle position for longer before moving on to teaching backwards and forwards movement.

To save some questions, my awesome T-shirt is from .au and the treat pouch is from my favourite .paws.designs

Marker Words đŸ“·
Often people think that just giving a dog a treat is enough to help grow a behaviour or develop obedience commands but
there’s more behind why we say particular words and the effect that we want them to have a dog. Well timed markers that are used consistently will have a much bigger effect on developing your training than those used inconsistently or if you’re changing what you’re saying all the time. The trick to Dog training is actually talking less but talking with purpose and clear words that the Dog understands the meaning of. Other examples of markers might be “good” or an error marker might be “ uh ahh “ or “no”

REALITY CHECK ✅ Don’t compare your puppy or dog to social media accounts as you’re simply be setting the bar too high and alot of what you see isn’t quite what it seems
. Train at your own pace be patient and the results will come.

If your dream is to take your dog to cafés and enjoy relaxing outings together, start setting those expectations from the very first trip.
Set your dog up for success by providing a comfortable place to settle, along with a calming chew, enrichment toy, or treat to enjoy. Choose an environment that isn’t overly stimulating and gives your dog the best chance of making good decisions.
For example, visit a café during a quieter period, such as mid afternoon, rather than heading out on a busy Saturday morning. Keep the session short and positive, reward calm behaviour and good choices, and leave before your dog becomes overwhelmed.
By gradually building positive experiences, you’ll teach your dog that settling quietly beside you is part of the cafĂ© experience.
To keep unwanted attention away I highly recommend having a sign. I’ve just hung my leash extender on the front of the trolley and it’s made my day so much easier without having to tell people No they’re just giving me space it’s from

MARKER WORDS 📾 these help you capture the exact moment your puppy or dog completes an action or makes a decision that you want to see more of. I’ve had a bunch of questions asking about what mark and pay is in my recent tutorials and thought I’d repost this. Happy training âœŒđŸŒ

Spatial pressure could be why your dog runs when they see the harness
so it probably not the harness itself. It might actually be linked to the process that you’re taking to put the harness on. Don’t get me wrong there could be other things that play like if you have an anxious dog and you’re saying “do you want to go walkies” and then get the harness out? It’s a pattern in which you have set the dog gets anxious about. They don’t want to go for a walk and you’ve just announced that we’re going into the big scary world and therefore they do not want to put their harness on.

If you want your puppy to be consistent, it starts with you. Humans are often the ones who struggle most with consistency. Creating a predictable evening routine and giving your puppy clear signals that the day is winding down can make a huge difference.
When your puppy learns that certain activities mean bedtime is approaching, they can begin to relax and settle more easily. The expectation becomes clear: it’s time to head to their crate, switch off, and get some rest.
A calm and consistent bedtime routine helps put your puppy in the right state of mind for sleep, sets both of you up for success, and increases the likelihood of a restful night’s sleep that lasts until morning.
