It is with sadness that we say goodbye to Sunita, affectionately known as Suni, one of our three tigers at Sydney Zoo.

After our Animal Care team noticed changes in Suni’s behaviour, our Veterinary team undertook a medical assessment which revealed that her kidneys were failing, impacting other areas of her body and overall health. Sadly, given the severity of her condition, her age, and her prognosis, the difficult decision was made to euthanise Suni in the best interests of her welfare and ongoing quality of life. Suni was 19 years old and had lived a long life surrounded by people who cared deeply for her.

Suni came to Sydney Zoo in December 2022 with her siblings, Mika and Charlie. They were born at Mogo Zoo before moving to Australia Zoo when they were just one month old, where they were hand-raised. Suni had plenty of personality. She spent her days alongside Mika and Charlie, relaxing in the habitat and, particularly through summer, lazing in the water.

She will be deeply missed by our team and by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
