🟢🔵 BACK-TO-BACK 🏆 | OUT OF LUCK
A fantastic result over the weekend with Out Of Luck making it back-to-back wins on the short turnaround, earning connections an impressive $31,200 in prizemoney in just eight days.
Originally purchased this prep for just $5,000, he’s another great example of an approach we’ve consistently had success with; identifying affordable tried horses that we believe have untapped potential. Whether it’s something that’s been overlooked, a change in environment or simply finding the right races, we’ve always taken pride in recognising these opportunities and sourcing horses for our owners without the significant upfront investment.
Competing out of the Gold Coast is no easy task. In my opinion, the calibre of trainers currently based here is as strong as, if not stronger than, what you’ll find at Queensland’s main metropolitan training centres. To put that into perspective, 9 of the Top 25 trainers in last season’s Metropolitan Premiership were based at the Gold Coast, with 5 of the current Top 10 again calling the Gold Coast home this season.
We’re regularly competing against some of Queensland’s biggest and most established operations, many with substantial financial backing, large syndicators and a constant influx of nice yearlings and tried horses. Despite operating on a considerably smaller scale and within strict budgets, we’ve consistently demonstrated over the years that we can compete and produce results against these operations when the right opportunities arise.
🔵 CURRENT NUMBERS 26/27
🟢 TOP 30/400 — Queensland Provincial Trainers’ Premiership
🟢 12TH BEST STRIKE RATE (20%) — Among the current Top 30 provincial trainers.
🟢 JUST 10 HORSES IN WORK!
With the exception of two country based stables, those sitting above us on the premiership table are some of Queensland’s biggest training operations, many with anywhere from 20 to 100 horses in work.
Meanwhile, we’re continuing to compete with a team of approximately 10 horses, some still progressing through their trials and a small handful of others actively racing. All have been purchased for a fraction of the prices regularly paid by larger operations. Success for us is about identifying the right horses, understanding what they need and placing them where they can be competitive. Of course, maintaining that success requires a constant flow of opportunities, and we’re always looking to welcome new horses into the stable. Results like Out Of Luck’s highlight what can be achieved through smart purchasing, careful management and strategic placement, and we’re excited about continuing to build on that success.
