Happy International Day of Play! 🐾🎉

Today’s reminder comes courtesy of the best play experts on the planet: cats and dogs. From zoomies through the living room to surprise pounces on invisible enemies, they’ve truly mastered the art of taking joy seriously.

Whether it’s a game of fetch, a cardboard box fort, or a dramatic cat vs. string showdown, play isn’t just fun—it’s a whole lifestyle. 🐶🐱

So take a cue from our four-legged friends: pause, play, repeat.

🐾 RSPCA Operation Wanted – 20% Off Desexing for Pets 🐾

Monday 1st June marks the beginning of RSPCA Operation Wanted 🎉🎉
The RSPCA Operation Wanted program is a community initiative designed to make responsible pet ownership more affordable and accessible.

Through this program, eligible pet owners can receive 20% off desexing procedures for their cats and dogs. The aim is to reduce the number of unwanted litters, improve long-term animal welfare, and help more pets live healthier, safer lives.

Desexing plays an important role in preventing overpopulation, reducing certain health risks, and decreasing behaviours associated with mating instincts. By making these procedures more affordable, Operation Wanted supports both pets and owners while easing pressure on shelters and rescue services.

🐝 Today on World Bee Day, we’re celebrating the diversity of bees, beekeeping practices and the vast array of bee products all around the world. It is an occasion to raise awareness on how everyone can make a difference to protect, sustainably manage and restore bees and pollinators, and to promote sustainable beekeeping. 🐝

🌻 Grow bee-friendly plants in your backyard or community garden .
🐞 Make a bug hotel, there's some great DIY options online.
🍯 Buy local, sustainable honey, propolis and other bee products.
👧 Teach kids about bees and get them excited about conservation.

🐶🐱🐹🐭 Spending time with a small companion animal—like a dog, cat or similar pet—can have a surprisingly powerful impact on both physical and mental wellbeing. 🐁🦎🦜🐠

🫀 On the physical health side, studies have linked pet ownership with lower blood pressure and reduced cholesterol levels, partly due to the calming effect animals can have on the nervous system. Daily care routines—feeding, walking, grooming, or simply playing—also encourage gentle, consistent movement, which can improve overall fitness levels and help build healthier daily habits without it feeling like a chore.

🧠 The mental health benefits are just as meaningful. Having a companion animal can reduce feelings of anxiety and stress by providing a steady source of comfort and calm presence. For many people, pets also help ease symptoms of depression by encouraging routine, connection, and moments of joy throughout the day. There’s something grounding about being needed by another living being—it can create a strong sense of purpose and responsibility that supports emotional stability.

Beyond that, companion animals often contribute to improved self-esteem and overall wellbeing. They offer unconditional companionship, which can reduce feelings of loneliness and increase a sense of belonging. Even small daily interactions—like greeting your pet or sharing quiet time together—can build emotional resilience over time.
In a world that can feel fast and overwhelming, the steady companionship of a small animal can be a simple but powerful source of balance, comfort, and connection.

Pet ownership is a big, long-term responsibility. Some pets may live for up to 20 years. It's important to make sure you can properly care for a pet.
☎️ Feel free to pop in or call our friendly team for more advice on what's involved in owning a companion animal.
