Last weekend I was lucky enough to follow up the seminar I attended with Ben Geurts in Perth back in April with another fantastic weekend at the Kaizen K9 Reactivity & Aggression Seminar, hosted by Ryan King OzcorpK9
Over two days, Ben explored one of the most challenging issues many dog owners face: reactivity and aggression. Whether you have a pet dog, sport dog or working dog, living with a dog that struggles in the world can be exhausting, isolating and at times downright heartbreaking.
What I appreciated most was the multimodal approach presented throughout the seminar. Rather than simply focusing on suppressing behaviours, the discussions centred around understanding how the dog feels, identifying the factors contributing to those emotions and meeting the dog's needs on multiple levels to create meaningful and lasting change.
These specialised seminars don't just add more tools to the dog training toolbox. They challenge the way we think, reinforce good practices and ultimately help us become better trainers. Every new concept, conversation and practical exercise gives me another way to help both the owner and the dog in front of me.
A special shout out to the working spots and their handlers who put themselves out there over the weekend. It's no easy feat stepping in front of a crowd, especially when you're sharing such a personal challenge with your dog. It takes courage, vulnerability and a genuine commitment to helping your dog. Everyone there learnt something because of your willingness to step forward.
A big thank you to Ben for sharing his knowledge and to Ryan for hosting another great seminar here in South Australia. It's fantastic to have access to this calibre of education without having to travel interstate ( though I do that too 😂)
The learning never stops, and I'm already looking forward to the next opportunity to keep growing as a trainer.
