I love you Nandi.

We had a hell of a run together in this lifetime.

We both got lucky the day our eyes first met at the Christchurch dog pound. We travelled hundreds of thousands of kilometres together and grew greyer and wiser together for 15 years.

The road was often rough and sometimes seemed nearby impassable, but we were both too strong willed to give up. In your younger years, you loved the occasional punch up and you weren't above biting a person to make them go away. Yet at the same time you were always so gentle with your humans and easygoing as we travelled and moved homes again and again.

Our perseverance paid off and the second half of our era was exultant. You became my dog training helper, a scent detection trial ribbon winner, an animal physiotherapy student demo dog, and companion for my new puppies. It was hard to believe you were still the same rough and tumble girl.

We saw it through together til the very end.

Thank you for everything.

Dakota the working line German shepherd is a good dog with loving owners, who had an all-too-common experience when trying to get her trained.

They sought help from a training company who let them down. After months of private lessons and group classes, Dakota's behaviour was unchanged. She was still anxious and very distracted in public. Walking her past a dog was a real struggle. At home she was calmer and affectionate, but would bark frequently at the slightest noise, and go nuts during thunderstorms.

Giving her some freedom at the park or the beach was out of the question.

Dakota came to me for a board and train program and went home a much more confident, happy, controlled, and obedient dog.

Three weeks later, Dakota and her family are still enjoying stress-free walks, play sessions at the dog beach, and improved cooperation both at home and out in the world. Her storm phobia has also settled, just in time for the summer storm season.

Jade's puppies have arrived! She gave birth to 6 pups last night. Sadly the final one was stillborn, which is common but still heartbreaking. The remaining 5 puppies and mum are doing well. Jade is a very attentive mum and is taking the job seriously as she always does.

Thanks to Jade's breeder . She is accepting EOI's for working and sports homes. One female has already been reserved by a dog trainer.

Looking forward to watching them grow 🤩

Every dog is born with genetic instincts.

Learning how to guide those instincts, and in the process, watching dogs grow into their potential, brings me an overwhelming sense of joy.

It deepens my understanding of who they are and why they do what they do. Appreciating dogs for the amazing creatures that they are motivates me to bring out the best in them as we navigate the challenges of living together in a world that often doesn't really suit any of us.

There are endless ways this can be done, and I think that's pretty cool.

Jade has earned her Scent Work Novice title (Dogs QLD pending) 🎉🎉🎉

Sports titles aren't everything in dog training, but this journey has absolutely improved my skills and our relationship. Watching her do her thing brings a new level of appreciation for her. She is so cool 😎

Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way.

Shefti the miniature dachshund had all the problems.

At 5 years old, he'd spent his entire life being reactive to dogs and people, unable to be left alone at home, unwilling to let anyone trim his nails, and was ready to bite to avoid pressure. He hadn't been walked in over a year.

The night before leaving home for board and train, he pushed the front door open and nipped a delivery driver.

Despite all these issues, it was clear from our first meeting that Shefti wasn't a bad dog. He wanted to be friendly and be included, but he didn't know how.

Following the guidance of myself and my dogs, Shefti learned how to be a dog who is social, obedient, confident, and calm when left at home. He learned more appropriate ways to handle pressure. And he discovered a love for long bush walks.
