Meet Rover, a Southeast Asian Village Dog (based in DNA testing 😄), who had multiple collapsing episodes. He was referred to Vet Waves for a specialist echocardiogram, which showed that he had mitral valve disease that was likely not contributing to his collapse. In myxomatous mitral valve disease, the valves become thickened and allow blood to leak backwards in the heart. Although he will receive further testing, the owners now know that major structural abnormalities or heart failure are not a concern for his current problem. However, with an early diagnosis of heart disease, the owners know to monitor Rover for signs of progression.
