🩷 Accessible & Active Double Cage Layout 🩷

Following on from yesterday episode discussing Caring for Older Rats, we thought we'd provide a bit of a visual aid for what an accessible but still active cage layout may look like. In the episode, we spoke about how important it is to keep the cage layout active, engaging and enriching, even when considering modifications to assist a slightly older rat who may perhaps, for example, be struggling with Hind Leg Degeneration.

I've dug out a cage layout photo from the end of last year when I had several older boys in my mischief, including one boy with quite advanced HLD, and labelled a few of the key elements that were important for him. Its important to remember the cage layout will look different when the doors are shut (but we had to choose the best way to show the setup!) and that different things work for different rats. I spent a little while sat across from the cage and watched for areas he struggled and then jumped in to alter or add things until we came to this layout that worked for him 🫶

To celebrate the upcoming annual show in Brisbane next month I am offering show bags for pet Rats! 😃🐀🛍

From the 8th to the 16th of August I will be making these bags. I only have a limited amount of stock so order before the 8th to make sure you have a guaranteed spot on my creations list 😉

Limited time only! These bags are a special occasion treat for your mischief and will not be available for order after the 16th of August. HOWEVER if they do well I MAY bring them back temporarily for our annual local festival that is happening in September 2026.

There will be 3 show bag options to choose from.

1. $10 The Almond Bag - great for ratties who love the challenge of chewing through tough shells. This bag will include 6 almonds in their shells as well as a small bag of mixed treats. It will also have a paper bag with some chew toys inside and 3 foraging cups to hide treats in for extra fun! 😉

2. $15 The Bamboo Surprise Party Bag - a good option for those ratties that LOVE bamboo sticks. This bag will have 2 full sized bamboo sticks, 4 small bamboo stick pieces and a pack of my newest creations : the Bamboo Surprise Party Stick 😃 Bamboo Surprise Party Sticks come in packs of 3 and are a lot of fun. Each stick has one of the following materials inside it - a Balsa stick, an apple stick and a sola stick - providing your rats with different and exciting textures when they chew on them! Of course you also need treats in a show bag so a small bag of mixed treats is included as well as a few other small toys to keep everyone happy 😊

3. $50 MEGA MISCHIEF SHOW BAG - This bag has something for the whole mischief! Mixed treats, a variety of toys, a Bamboo Surprise Party Sticks pack of 3, up to 12 almonds and 3 goodie boxes!!!! This is the ULTIMATE show bag for pet rats! Suitable for up to 10 rats! It has lots of different materials to keep everyone happy and a lot of yummy treats! It even has a small tub of Biscoff spread - rats LOVE Biscoff!!! 😃

I also have Goodie Boxes available for order. They will be created the same time as the show bags but I'm accepting orders now 😌

Large ones are $20 each. Light purple ones have an extra entry hole and can only be attached to the side of the cage.
Small ones are $15 each. Suitable for younger rats and smaller females (I can just fit my whole hand in through the hole).
