❌ TRAUMA CASE️❌️ 🐍

This is NOT ok. Dousing an innocent Python with hot liquid - most likely boiling water - is one of the cruelest torture methods possible.

When a callout from Kallangur was received from a Resident concerned for a Python seen bleeding, we suspected foul play.

On arrival we were met with a python suffering from severe thermal burns. The injury had resulted in partial ‑ to full‑thickness skin damage, scale sloughing, dermal necrosis and early signs of secondary infection. Burns of this nature cause extreme pain, dehydration and sepsis.

Injuries were consistent with infliction over a week ago, resulting in skin tightening around upper body causing its skin to tear. Coupled with its nasal passage & jaw collapsing, it was struggling to breath and could no longer eat.

In addition to these horrific, painful injuries, this poor python was already ill - suffering from Snake Fungal Disease. Seeking help in surburbia resulted in its torture instead of receiving medical assistance.

The kindest solution was to end its pain quickly. Euthanesia. There was no viable recovery path to offer a chance of survival.

Years of attending Trauma Rescues & cruelty cases show those who cause horrific harm to Wildlife can be repeat offenders. These types of injuries are carried out for purposes of torturing an animal to inflict pain & suffering, rather than kill it out of fear.

If you see or know of Wildlife offenders in your area - speak up. Your effort could save a life. Or many.

No Animal - domestic or wild - deserve any form of pain, torture or deliberate injury. Unfortunately Residents exist amongst us who enjoy infliction and they need to be dealt with.

Our heart bleeds for the pain and suffering this beautiful Python endured 💔. Thank you to Resident Alan for monitoring it until RAWR arrived.

🐢 Tilly our beautiful & pregnant Long Neck Turtle has Brodie from Gateway Express Car Wash to thank for rescuing her & Tracy & Cameron at Red Rooster Nudgee for keeping her safe til RAWR arrived for collection & an ambulance ride to AZ hospital.

Disorientated & exhausted from her marathon effort sourcing the perfect garden to lay her eggs, Tilly wandered into the Car Wash for a refreshing shower & much needed rehydration 🌨.

Unfortunately this car wash wasnt built for Turtles so she exited with injuries.

Thankfully after triaging, pain relief and time in hospital, Tilley will recover and return back to her home for another chance at sourcing a safe space for her tiny turtles to hatch.

Its Turtle time on our roads as breeding season commences. Please be careful if you see one wandering. These Mums have a hard time finding a laying spot with many bowing to injuries and some not making it at all.

🐍 Proof Eastern Browns are placid if they're not threatened, harassed & tormented to perform for the cameras.

EBs' are no different to other snake species - they see Humans, dogs & cats as predators so look for an exit strategy to escape a dangerous situation. They will only rear up to make themselves look taller and strike if cornered, needing to defend themselves, or aggravated for photos & filming.

We received a callout from a property owner who saw an EB in her driveway. She noticed its tail was slightly injured so when it slipped into a pipe she blocked it in and called RAWR for a welfare check. Worthy of a medical checkup, we transported to Hospital.

When ready for discharge we released back at its local creek. Usually an EB will shoot out the bag and high tail it straight into the bush. On this occasion however little one decided to use a boot as cover and sneak off to the right.

With no movement or fear shown from our female Rescuer / Catcher, it didnt feel threatened and used her as part of its escape plan.

EBs are sometimes misunderstood. They're not out to harm us, prefering to avoid both Humans and Pets at all costs.

⚜️ If you see an EB on your premises it will be there for the following reasons:

1. Chasing down Rodents 🐁
2. Seeking drinking water from a pets bowl💧
3. Cooling down from the heat
4. Passing thru your yard on a hunt or returning home

❓️WHAT TO DO:
1. Stay Calm - Stand Still - if you come across one within a metre or two of your position. It will retreat and exit opposite way.

2. Keep Pets inside until you see it move out of your yard

3. Place a tub of water against fenceline so Snakes can hydrate away from your pets bowl and patio / doors

4. Dont aggreviate it nor attempt to move it on. Call a Catcher if concerned.

⚠️ REMEMBER...
- Its Illegal to touch or relocate a snake without a DMP licence

- Its illegal to injure or kill a Snake.

Their protected under the Nature Conservation Act for valid reasons.

Polly the Possums' Car ride 🦫

An important reminder to check under your bonnet for little stowaways.🚗.

Emma in Mcdowall saw her dog fixated on their car. Investigation revealed a frightened baby Brushtail hiding in her engine bay. Little Polly may have endured up to 4 hours on a driving journey, clinging to life while Emma ran errands.

With no idea where on Emmas' travels Polly had climbed up into the car, it was impossible to try and reunite her with Mum.

Possums taking refuge under bonnets is becoming more frequent as trees are cut down in yards or their habitats are destroyed for development.

Mums with babies and young males chased away from older males' territories are the primary rescues we're called to. An engine bay provides cover and protection from predators while they sleep during day. They can squeeze into small spaces for safety, making it harder to be caught.

Unfortunately if a driver is unaware of their presence, it can end badly for these possums, resulting in severe first and second degree burns, or worse.

Thankfully Polly wasnt badly injured and is now in hospital recuperating before moving onto a Carer to raise. The trauma of being separated from her mum and finding herself alone in the world, coupled with maintaining her balance to survive the drive is more than most babies could bear. Luckily Pollys' shown strength in character which will.serve her well in life. 🍀

🐨 Keep dogs safely inside at night — koalas are most active after dark, and encounters with dogs can be deadly.

🐨 Make your fences koala-friendly — simply place a sturdy wooden pole or plank againstyour existing fence to create a safe climbing point and help koalas move between properties.

🐨 Report every koala sighting — including injured or deceased koalas. Every report helps us understand where koalas are moving and where they need protection.

🐱 MEET BAILEY 🐱
The Bob tail Cat...
Abandoned - Twice!
Living in bush fending for himself.
Slept in a drain.
Wilted away to Skin and bone over winter.
Found.
Then Abandoned - again - when reunited 🫣

RAWR received a call from Residents in D'Aguilar asking for help catching an abandoned Cat living in the streets' drains. RAWR dont rescue Domestic Pets - there are organisations already set up for this. However Residents replied they'd exhausted all avenues and were told we would help. So why not.... we catch Snakes, Possums, Turkeys, Owls - how hard can it be to catch a Cat ??

Bailey made sure last Friday night he answered our question. Very hard ! So smart. So sassy. So quick ! After thinking outside the box we managed to secure him safely. Residents were right. No group could take him in. So Bailey spent the night in our bathroom with a soft bed and warm blanket. He chose to sleep in the sink. Guessing he was still in drain mode...

Next day the incredibly kind team at our favourite Northside Vet surgery offered to take him in, Vet check, treat. We scanned for a microchip. Bingo ! So excited to find he had one. Imagined Bailey has been accidently left behind in D'Aguilar 12 months ago during his owners move. How thrilled they'd be to reunite !

Sadly ... No. Bailey was actually registered to a family in North Brisbane ironically not far from the Vet surgery. It was looking more like he'd not been lost nor left behind

The phone call to Owners confirmed he wasnt wanted. In fact... the call confirmed Bailey had been on the streets for - 6 YEARS -. He was now 8 years old. Devastated to think how this poor boy survived winters alone so far from his family.

Owners' officially surrendered him. So now Bailey is living at the Vet Surgery until we can find this beautiful boy his forever home. One where he'll be loved for who he is and never feel disappointment - or a cold winters night alone - again .

So lets all work together and show Bailey there are wonderful Residents in Brisbane and Moreton Bay who care deeply for animals

Somewhere out there is a lucky human about to feel genuine love from this beautiful boy. Is it You ??

A callout to Dog Owners 🐈

We attend far too many rescues where innocent Wildlife are mauled, severely injured, or killed by untrained Dogs. On occasions scenes are so brutal that “crime scene” is the only accurate description.

Some Owners are devastated — genuinely shocked their dogs caused harm and eager to learn how to prevent it happening again. Others laugh it off - something no Rescuer, Carer or kind person will ever understand. Its illegal to kill native wildlife.

Training your dog to bark instead of attack takes time — but it’s essential. And it needs to start now, as Springs' arrived and Wildlife are out in force mating, raising young and doing the work they do to keep our Ecosystem functioning - a job becoming harder every year as their habitat disappears and suburbia expands.

This little Ringtail Joey is a heartbreaking example.
Its mother was chased along a fence line “for fun” by a dog. The baby fell from her back, was mauled, its spine broken, and left in the cold to die.

A neighbour’s dog found it, alerting its owner. Thankfully they kept the tiny joey warm until RAWR arrived. Sadly its injuries lead to euthanisia.

Innocent Wildlife should never suffer like this. They deserve space to live safely among us — without more threats than they already face.
