If I didn’t want the first week of puppy raising to feel like chaos…
this is exactly what I’d do.
I’d keep it simple. Clear. Structured.
Because it’s not the puppy that makes week one overwhelming…
it’s not having a plan.
This is also exactly what we walk our Puppy Academy clients through from day one 👇
• Toilet breaks mapped out (every 30–45 mins while awake + after everything)
• First 48 hours protected. No visitors. No chaos. Just routine and bonding
• Only focusing on 2 behaviours: settling + following on lead
• Setting up clear safe spaces so calm behaviour actually happens
• Having a night-time plan BEFORE the puppy arrives
• Simple enrichment so the puppy learns to be independent
• Boundaries decided early (sleeping, access, structure)
Nothing fancy.
Just the stuff that actually works
when you do it properly from the start.
Most people try to figure this out as they go…
and that’s where the stress kicks in.
You don’t need more information.
You need guidance on what matters first.
That’s the difference I see every week with my Puppy Academy clients.
What’s one thing you wish you felt more prepared for before bringing your puppy home?
