Special boy Matteo 💛🦵
How adorable is beautiful Matteo and his special little nub? 🥹❤️
Mateo belongs to our wonderful Nurse Bec, but his journey to becoming a much-loved member of her family is a pretty special one.
As a puppy, Matteo fell from the back of a moving ute and suffered a severe fracture to his hind leg. Sadly, his injury didn’t receive veterinary treatment at the time. When a broken bone isn’t properly assessed and stabilised, the body will naturally try to heal itself, but sometimes it can heal in an abnormal position, with excessive bone growth and painful bony spurs developing around the fracture.
By the time Matteo was brought into Bec’s previous veterinary clinic by a pet surrender organisation, his leg had become severely damaged and incredibly painful. Unfortunately, the damage was too extensive to reconstruct the limb successfully, and the kindest and most life-changing option for Matteo was to amputate his hind leg.
And that’s where Matteo’s story took a wonderful turn. 💛💛💛
Matteo recovered beautifully from his amputation, and somewhere along the way, Nurse Bec completely fell in love with him. 🥹 She welcomed him into her home, and for the past three years, this gorgeous boy has been absolutely spoiled and loved endlessly.
Matteo doesn’t let having three legs slow him down. He shares his home with his feline friends and, most importantly, loves nothing more than curling up on Mum and Dad’s laps for a good cuddle.
His story is also a reminder of why getting fractures assessed by a veterinarian as soon as possible is so important. Depending on the type and location of a fracture, treatment can involve splinting, casting, surgical repair with plates and screws, pins or other forms of stabilisation. Early treatment gives the bone the best chance of healing in the correct position and can help prevent chronic pain and complications later on.
Thankfully, Mateo was given a second chance and three years later, he is living his absolute best tripod life. We think he is pretty lucky to have found Nurse Bec… but we have a feeling Bec would say she’s the lucky one. 🥹❤️
