What can’t she do?! 👩🏼‍⚕️🩺🐰
It really pays to have a Vet as a friend. 💕

Nurse Mel’s son’s ‘beloved’ bunny, Sally, suffered a traumatic injury at home after an unfortunate incident that resulted in her leg being ‘ripped off’ 😳… by said ‘son.. 🫤

Lucky for nurse Mel she rushed poor Sally in for a stitch up surgery with the ‘best’ surgeon in town, Dr Jo for lifesaving treatment of the leg.

We are very pleased to report Sally’s surgery was a complete success. Her leg was expertly reattached, the sutures are absolutely flawless, and her prognosis for returning to full-time cuddle duties is excellent.

Thanks Dr Jo! - aka elite surgeon! 🩺

She did it!!! 🩷🏃‍♀️👏🏻👏🏻

Our SUPER vet nurse completed the Gold Coast 10km run in support of breast cancer research, a cause that is deeply personal to her and her family.

With her mum currently battling breast cancer, this event meant far more than just crossing a finish line. It was about strength, hope, and supporting a cause close to her heart.

She originally set herself a fundraising goal of $500, but thanks to the generosity and support of so many people, she absolutely surpassed it, raising an amazing $1,883 towards breast cancer research. WOW! - amazing achievement!!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated, she is SO grateful, and there were definitely moments at work where the generosity from YOU had her in tears. 💗 And to those who couldn’t donate but quietly cheered her on from afar, sent kind messages, or wished her well in clinic, she so appreciated those too. Support comes in so many forms, and it all meant the world to her.

We are so proud of her determination, compassion, and the huge heart she brings not only to our clinic every day, but to causes that truly matter. 💕

Well done nurse Caroline! So proud of you girl! You smashed it!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Our beautiful vet nurse Chloe is heading off on maternity leave ‘soonish’ as she gets ready to welcome baby number two 🩵👶🏻

We are so excited for her and her growing family, and so grateful we’ll still get the occasional visit (we’ll be fully expecting those baby cuddles when she does!). At the same time, it’s hard to imagine the clinic without her friendly face every day. 😭😭

Chloe has this way of keeping everything running smoothly without ever making it look like effort. She moves through the clinic at lightning speed, with a quiet mastery of inventory, always restocking ahead of time, and somehow keeping the whole team effortlessly in the loop on new products and medications.

She’s not just an employee to us she’s a friend, and a darn good vet nurse. The clinic just won’t feel the same without her steady presence, her calm in the chaos, and the way she quietly holds so much together without ever needing the spotlight.

We’re going to miss her so much, but we couldn’t be happier for her as she heads into this next chapter with her little boy. See you in 12 months… and not a day later!!

Without dogs, what would this world look
like?

It’s strange to think about sometimes… what would the people who dedicate their lives to vet med even do if dogs didn’t exist? Would we find another passion, or would a part of us always feel a little lost?

Because for so many of us, loving animals runs far deeper than just “liking pets.” It becomes part of who you are. The way you see the world changes when you spend your life caring for creatures who can’t speak for themselves. You learn patience, compassion, selflessness and a kind of unconditional love that’s hard to explain to people who haven’t felt it.

People in vet med don’t do this work because it’s easy. We do it because somewhere along the line, animals found their way into our hearts and stayed there. Their happiness matters to us. Their pain affects us. Their trust means something. And even on the exhausting, heartbreaking days, one wagging tail or one little nose pressed into your hand keeps the fire within us burning.

Dogs have this ability to heal people without even trying. They sit beside us during grief, loneliness, stress and loss. They celebrate our happiest moments like they’re their own. They don’t care what you look like, what job you have, or what kind of day you’ve had they just love you anyway.

And maybe that’s why the bond feels so deep. In a world that can sometimes feel complicated and heavy, animals bring something honest and pure.

With every patient we see, we know they mean this much to you too. We love them for you while they’re here for surgery, a hospital stay, a vaccination, or even just a simple nail trim. We know they aren’t “just dogs.” They’re family. They’re comfort. They’re routine. They’re the piece of your heart that walks around outside your body.

💚🤎🐶 Milo 🐶🤎💚

With the cold weather starting, we’ve all been reaching for the blankets and a warm cup of Milo in the clinic. Which got us chatting about something we get asked from time to time: can dogs have Milo?

❌ As cute as the idea sounds, Milo is one treat that’s best kept just for humans.

While the drink powder might seem harmless (and even nostalgic for us humans), Milo contains cocoa, which means it contains theobromine, a compound that dogs can’t process safely. It can build up in their system and cause chocolate toxicity.

Even small amounts can lead to:
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Restlessness or hyperactivity
• Increased heart rate
• Tremors in more serious cases

On top of that, Milo is also high in sugar and offers no nutritional benefit for pets. So while our patient ‘Milo’ is recovering just fine after his procedure, his namesake is best kept in the human pantry, not the dog bowl 😉

If your pet ever gets into chocolate or cocoa products, contact us asap for advice, timing and amount really matter.

* Thank you Milo for your beautiful supermodel poses! What a Star you are! ⭐️

😻🙀 ~ Howard ~ 🙀😻

Who knew we don’t just see cats and dogs here… apparently we also treat tiny bald chickens. 🐓🐥

Meet Howard, a gorgeous Sphynx kitten with BIG ears, BUG eyes, and the softest, wrinkliest skin you ever did feel. 🤍

Despite Howard’s naked appearance, he’ll actually need quite a bit of extra care compared to a fluffy cat. Because Sphynx cats don’t have a normal coat to absorb oils, their skin can become greasy and needs regular bathing to keep them clean and healthy. Their big ears also need routine cleaning, and they can be more sensitive to cold temperatures… which explains why Howard was desperately trying to crawl under Dr Caroline’s scrub top during his examination. 😹

We absolutely loved meeting little Howard today and can’t wait to watch his cheeky little personality shine through as he grows. ✨

✨🐾 Gorgeous girl Maisie 🐾✨

Maisie visited us today for her vaccinations and a lovely little pawdicure, and she was the sweetest, bravest patient from start to finish 🤍

That’s all well and good BUT most importantly… can we PLEASE talk about these AMAZING LASHES 😍✨Look at how stunning they are!!

What makes them even more special is that they haven’t always been white. As Border Collies age, it’s actually quite common for parts of their coat and facial features to lighten over time especially around the face, eyebrows and eyelashes. Just like humans going grey, many collies develop these beautiful silver and white highlights as they get older ✨

Whilst the nurses couldn’t stop taking approximately 1000 photos of her 😂📸, Maisie was a little shy at first. Before long though, she warmed up to the attention whilst staying close to mum the whole time 🥹

What an absolute model she is 🤍

🌿🐸🦉 Tawny Frogmouth 🦉🐸🌿

This beautiful Tawny Frogmouth was brought into clinic after being found injured, and Dr Jo stepped in to give it a thorough check over 🩺

Often mistaken for owls, Tawny Frogmouths are actually a unique native species known for their incredible camouflage, during the day they sit perfectly still, blending in like a tree branch. Unfortunately, this also makes them vulnerable to injuries, especially in suburban areas.

On examination, this little one was a bit worse for wear but is now receiving the care and monitoring it needs from the RSPCA wildlife centre 💚

Our clinic sees copious amounts of wildlife throughout the year, and a big part of what we do is helping stabilise, rehabilitate, and transfer native animals to experienced wildlife carers so they can get the best chance at recovery.

✨ Fun fact: Tawny Frogmouths don’t hunt like owls, instead of using strong talons, they rely on their wide, frog-like beak to snap up insects, small mammals, and even frogs!

A gentle reminder, if you come across wildlife that appears injured, unwell, or unusually quiet on the ground, it’s always best to contact your local wildlife rescue group or vet clinic for advice.

🤢🚫 When Snacks Go Wrong… 🚫🤢

“G’day, me name is Frankie 🐶 and boy did I have a morning! I made a bold decision… and ate a sanitary item - WHOOPSIE!
❌ 10/10 do not recommend”.

“Mum didn’t seem impressed and rushed me to the vet (rude), where Dr Caroline poked my leg and then I puked me guts up! And these ladies wouldn’t let me chomp it back down!! I mean recycling is good ain’t it?! What a waste!!”

“Anyway… the item that mum wanted back so badly was returned.. 🫤 You’re welcome”.

“The humans said I was “lucky” because things like this can get stuck and turn into a big deal (something about opening me belly up and saying things about suction machines and big stitches and some other lady mentioned a BIG hat I’d have to wear)!! GOD NO!”

Moral of the story:
• Not everything is a snack
• Vets ruin all the fun ❌❌
• Eating random stuff = immediate regret

“I’m feeling much better now… but apparently I’m “on watch” 🙄!”

🚨 (Serious note from the humans) if your pet eats something they shouldn’t, call us asap can save them from a much bigger problem!)

Frankie (no longer a sanitary item connoisseur) 🐾
