It’s a common belief, but it’s only part of the picture.

Working dogs generate heat long before the job is over. That’s why managing body temperature between deployments, training sessions or periods of intense activity matters just as much as recovery afterwards.

That’s how quickly heat stroke can take hold in a working dog under the wrong conditions - and most handlers don’t catch it until it’s already underway.

The early signs are behavioural, not obvious: subtle stumbling, slower responses, heavier panting than the work level would suggest. By the time it’s visible, the dog is already in trouble.

This is exactly why active cooling matters. Not as an accessory - as a necessity for any dog working in the heat.
