Bernedale Kennels, Saint Bernards of Supreme Quality. BERNEDALE KENNELS:- Australia's Inaugural Master Breeders of Quality Saint Bernard's! Together they imported many Saints, from Europe and also the USA.

Founded in New Zealand in 1989, Bernedale Kennels was influenced with the wonderful import Saints from Brit Marit Halverson's Bernegardens Kennels of Norway.
1998 saw Jim jump the Tasman and relocate in Victoria, Australia. Bernedale continued with the amalgamation of Debbi and John Egglestone's Bronbashei Kennels. After the turn of the century further success was embraced, with credit now being g

iven to the influence of both Stoans and Cache Retreat Kennels, from the USA.

2002 saw Tess join us at Bernedale:- thus the introduction of Clumber Spaniel's and in 2007 we welcomed our first Clumber Spaniel litter. Saint Bernard's and Clumber Spaniels continued to dominate our lives, with much success in the show ring and joy in our home. Debbi's early passing in 2009 left a huge dent, her knowledge, expertise and keen eye for a good Saint or Clumber was invaluable. In 2010 the majority of the Bernedale Saints were living in Queensland. Having had numerous Bernedale Saints campaigned in Qld over the past 15 years, in 2013 Bernedale transferred their Kennel to Queensland in partnership with Frank and Lesley Newman. Saint Bernard's having always been the primary breed, were once again the only breed focused on. Jim and John, together with Lesley and Frank, continue Debbi's dream! Bernedale:- Simply the Best.

MISS URSULA DOES IT AGAIN!!
Last weekend we trekked up the hill to the Darling Downs Kennel Club Shows, where Ursula on her 5th weekend out clocked up her 5th Best Junior in Group award and converted this to her 2nd Best Junior in Show award.
The wind was horrendous, we weren’t even game to put the awning out and Ursula was happy to spend the weekend snuggled on her bed inside the caravan, thankfully she is well behaved and also a great traveller.
Franko was not impressed when I asked him to get a pic, I don’t think he realised his tie was out, the weather had got to him and he wanted his lunch, not enough care taken says me!!!!
As always, we give our thanks and appreciation to the Judges’ who showed their appreciation of Ursula’s breed qualities.

Miss Ursula, aka BERNEDALE SHE’S THE REAL DEAL AI, has been making herself known over the last few weekends.
In only 4 weekends back in the show ring she has achieved 4 BEST JUNIOR IN GROUP AWARDS, 1 BEST JUNIOR IN SHOW AWARD, and 1 RESERVE EXHIBIT IN GROUP, (GROUP 2nd PLACEMENT).
Ursula started her show career as a Baby Puppy beautifully piloted by our Grand daughter, but that soon came to a halt when the Summer heat came in.
Missing both the Minor Puppy and Puppy Class, now at 14 months Ursula has just been re introduced to time in the show ring, which has been quite a whirlwind of success for us and for her!
We would like to thank all the Judges that have shown their appreciation of Ursula’s qualities, and thank them for their time and patience to fully appreciate our breed standard.

Cleaning through my pics and I found this video I took of Beth, it was when we had the car and caravan weighed so we had to have it done with our heaviest Saint on board to ensure no matter which one we travelled with we would be covered legally within our weight limit.
She loved the water but was not too sure of the spray of water coming over the rock wall.

With appreciation and thanks to Lyndsay McNaught for taking their X-rays, we were super thrilled to get both our young girls hip and elbow scores back, after having them read and evaluated by specialist radiographer Dr Mariano Makara.
Hips are graded with scores from 0 to 106 and with a history of great scores behind them I was hoping they would come back better than the breed average, that currently being 13.63.
Pearl has returned a total score of 6, which is exactly the same as her Grandmother, being a 3:3, meaning equally balanced on both left and right sides.
Ursula has returned an even better total score of 4, being a 2:2, again beautifully equally balanced on both the left and right sides, and both girls achieved 0:0 on their elbows, which are graded from 0-3.
So we are doing a happy dance here right now, looks like both girls are staying put and will become a part of our future breeding program!
Our thoughts for future generations and prospective litters are made well in advance here at Bernedale and in anticipation of good results, we have had some exciting matings planned ‘on the drawing board’ for these girls, even prior to their own birth.
The future looks good!
