Hi all bit of a community update - Kalinga Park has just put in place biosecurity protocols to help protect our staff and our clients. This relates to the recent detection of the H5N1 virus in other parts of Australia. We ask anyone who has sick or injured birds and or wildlife to contact us or the RSPCA - BEFORE TOUCHING THE ANIMAL.... If you bring an animal to the clinic, please stay outside and ring the clinic to ask for advice.

We have a process in place to try and ensure injured wildlife still receive the care it needs but ask you contact us to ensure if we need to we can prepare for the arrival or divert you to the appropriate resource.

We strongly recommend people follow Biosecurity QLD advice ->

"Do not touch sick or dead wild birds or wildlife. If you suspect bird flu in any species of animal, you must report it immediately to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888."

Looking for a Foster Carer and a permanent Home

Ascot and Kalinga Park have taken in a little guy looking for his forever home.
He is very intelligent. He walks well and is trained to sit and he heels well. He has come from a home in the area that can no longer provide him with the care he needs. He is a friendly dog and seems to get along with other dogs pretty well. He is a young and strong Staffy and thus requires a firm hand when walking. His history is somewhat unknown we are hoping to find a local who can care for him for the next week or so while we look for a forever home. We are working in conjunction with Jordon Dog Training who is assisting us in finding somewhere suitable. Following a spate of calls regarding pet dogs and exposure to a bat. Could I ask you all to share this post around? I get calls from all over South East Queensland - from as far north as Gympie, from people concerned about their pet after a bat exposure. I wrote the article below nearly 7 years ago but it is still accurate. Kalinga Park Veterinary Surgery and Dr Ben Charlton is one of the very few clinics that maintain a critical stock of Rabies Vaccines that can be used with approval as a post-exposure treatment for Australian Bat LyssaVirus (colloquially Bat Rabies). The attached page has lots of info about the disease and risk and has a form people can fill out when exposure has occurred.

Lyssavirus has caused two human deaths. It is spread by scraching or biting from bats to other mammals. Early treatment is required.

Born 21/07/2012... Zahra has been part of the Kalinga Park family for a long time. We farewell this beautiful girl over the rainbow bridge. To her parents we thank them for the beautiful photo we can keep at the clinic as a memory.

I'll raise a glass to her tonight.

Hey guys, this is a great infographic - I think it's super important to understand that off-leash dogs running up to a dog on a leash is pretty rude. I don't mean rude to the owner I mean rude because the "friendly" off-leash dog is not reading the often quite obvious queues that a dog prefers a bit more space.
