Dances With Dogs Club Queensland

Dances With Dogs Club Queensland DWDCQ was formed in 2009 to promote the growth of DWD in Queensland.

We welcome members of any level, from absolute beginners to more advanced handlers with any breed of dog. While having its foundation in obedience heelwork, DWD enables the handler to include innovative and creative moves and movement in time to music, giving the illusion of dance.

Recently Sharon has alerted us to the fact that Chris Smith’s FB page (in the name ‘Christine Mary Smith’) had been hacked and not to accept any requests from that page. This morning I received a FB message from that page regarding a new clothing platform, so the hacker is still at work. Chris’s new, legitimate page is in the name ‘Christine Smith’ (no ‘Mary’) and it has her 2 dogs in a sit pretty with a Christmas theme behind them.

‘Christine Mary Smith’ was, until this morning, still on our DWDCQ FB page, and it is possible that the hacker may have accessed the names of others on our club FB page, so please beware.

Just a reminder (based on advice from Redlands club) to be diligent with your accounts (email, social media or other). Best practice is not to click on any links if you are unsure of the source. When in doubt, don’t click! Adding multi-factor authentication to your email, social media and other accounts is highly recommended. This would enable you to recover your account should it be compromised.

Good Luck to everyone who is competing at the Ekka tomorrow.
The Ekka (Brisbane Royal) is the best place to compete as our audiences are often large and they love watching our wonderful dogs performing their routines.
Competition starts approx 12:00pm in the dog pavillion.
I have attached the live link for you to see.

And that's a wrap on a fabulous 4 days of learning.
Thank You to Anastasiia Beaumont for coming to Australia and sharing your knowledge with us all. I'm sure you have rekindled a few light bulbs that may have dimmed in our training and also given us new ideas to follow through with.
We hope you have enjoyed your time here on a very chilly Gold Coast. I know we have enjoyed having you with us for this short time.
Special thanks goes to Margie for the wonderful job she did feeding us all. To Coral for looking after Anastasiia while she was visiting us here in QLD.
But most of all thanks to the committee of the DWDCQ for making this wonderful event happen.

Here are some photo's from our first competition of the year. I hope you all enjoy them :)

In Heelwork to Music there are 8 positions (left and right heel; left and right reverse heel; across the front in both directions; across the back in both directions) and in an Advanced HTM routine we expect to see most if not all of those positions demonstrated (including some duration, not just a fleeting moment) including movement in a variety of directions (forwards, backwards, lateral). This routine from Brianna and Molly at last weekend's competition is a lovely demonstration of doing just that:

Another award from the Dogs Queensland annual Dog Sports luncheon and presentations held on 16 February was the Freestyle Dog of the Year. This award was won by Maree Field and Halo - Halo RN, TKI, FSI, HTMN. Halo is a young dog whose skills and performances go well beyond what one would normally expect in a Novice routine.

Congratulations to Maree and Halo. Here is their beautiful Freestyle Novice routine from the 2024 Ekka. It’s easy to see why they won the Dog of the Year award with performances like this.
