🐾 Double the cuddles, double the cuteness! 🐾

Handsome boy Henry the Border Collie visited the clinic for an ear infection check-up after his family noticed he was feeling a little uncomfortable. Ear infections can be quite common in dogs, so early treatment is always the best way to keep them happy, healthy, and comfortable again 💙

We also had one of our frequent flyers, Capukee the British Bulldog, pop in for a social visit! Thankfully this visit was all about pats, treats, and catching up with the team, exactly how we like it 🐶✨

If your pet has been showing signs like head shaking, scratching at their ears, or sensitivity around the ears, it’s always worth getting them checked sooner rather than later.

📞 Our team at St Vincent Vets is always here to help keep your furry family members feeling their best.

⚠️ Not Every Snack Is Safe… Just Ask Bruce 👀

🐾 Bruce wasn’t feeling himself… and his owners knew something wasn’t right.

This handsome 1 year 8 month old chocolate tri British Bulldog came into St Vincent Vets after vomiting at home, refusing food, acting lethargic, and isolating himself from the family. During his examination, our vet felt something concerning on abdominal palpation that raised suspicion of a foreign body obstruction.

We proceeded with X-rays… and let’s just say Bruce had swallowed something he definitely shouldn’t have 👀

👇 Can you guess what Bruce ate? Put your guesses in the comments below!

Bruce then underwent an exploratory laparotomy (exlap), a surgical procedure where we carefully explore the abdomen to locate and remove the foreign body. During surgery, we also had to perform an anastomosis (intestinal resection) due to the foreign body becoming lodged in the intestine and causing trauma and bruising to the surrounding tissue.

Thankfully, surgery went smoothly and Bruce has recovered beautifully at home and is now back to his happy, playful bulldog self ❤️🐶

Foreign body obstructions can quickly become serious and life-threatening, so if your pet is vomiting, not eating, lethargic, or behaving unusually, don’t wait to have them checked.

✨ Historical fun fact: Bulldogs were once bred to be athletic working dogs, but over time they became one of the world’s most adored family companion breeds 🐾

🐾✨ Did you know we offer acupuncture for pets? ✨🐾

Meet Riley 💛🐶 a gentle 13 year old Golden Retriever who recently visited us for a health check and some extra support for his comfort.

Riley had been showing signs of limb soreness and lethargy, especially slowing down in the evenings. Given his age and history (including previous cruciate surgery).
Dr Eloise performed a thorough health assessment, including blood tests, to ensure everything was on track internally 🩺

Alongside this, Dr Eloise performed acupuncture treatment. Which is a gentle, targeted therapy that can help manage pain, improve mobility, and support conditions like arthritis 🌿

In the photo, you’ll spot Riley relaxing with a couple of acupuncture needles in place, completely calm, comfortable, and unbothered 🧘‍♂️💛
👀 How many can you see?

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points in the body to encourage natural pain relief and improve circulation, making it a great complementary option for our senior patients or those dealing with chronic discomfort.

Riley handled his visit like a champ (as always 💫), and we’re so glad to support him in staying as comfortable and happy as possible.

💡 Many pet owners don’t realise that acupuncture is a service we offer right here at St Vincent Vets!

If you think your pet may benefit, especially if they’re slowing down, stiff, or managing chronic pain. Give us a call to chat to our team to learn more.

📞 Get in touch with us today to see if acupuncture could help your furry family member.

🎉 Tavi the Water-Loving Wiggle Worm 💦🐾

Meet Octavius (aka Tavi), a 7 month old Frenchie with a BIG personality and an even bigger love for splashing about! 🐶💙

Tavi came in to see us for some ear discomfort, and after a quick check, we performed an ear cytology 🔬
Results showed a mixed ear infection with yeast and cocci bacteria in the right ear, and cocci bacteria in the left 👂

Our diagnosis: bilateral otitis externa, Tavi’s love for swimming may be part of the story, as extra moisture can sometimes create the perfect environment for these pesky bugs to thrive 💦🦠

With the right treatment plan and a few small adjustments, Tavi is already on his way back to feeling his happy, bubbly self 🥰✨

💡 Tip for pet parents: If your pup loves water play, be sure to dry those ears thoroughly after swims to help prevent infections!

📅 Noticing scratching, redness, or head shaking? Don’t wait, book a check up with our team!

🐾✨ Spotlight & Cuteness Appreciation ✨🐾

Meet Mali, our 7 month old Cavoodle who visited St Vincent Vets for a routine desexing procedure! 💙

Mali came in bright and early, fasted and ready for his big day. As part of his admission, we performed pre-anaesthetic blood testing to ensure his kidneys and liver were functioning normally and giving us the green light to proceed safely.

Once everything checked out, Mali underwent his procedure with IV fluids supporting him throughout. He recovered smoothly from anaesthesia, received a pain relief injection, and was sent home with take-home medication to keep him comfortable the next couple of days. Of course, he also left with his very own “cone of shame” to help protect his incision while he heals! 🐶🩺

Safe to say, Mali handled his visit like a champ from start to finish 💫

Look how cute he is 🥹👇

🐾 Can You Crack Maggie’s Case? 🕵️‍♀️🩻 🐾

Maggie, a 1 year 5 month old Labradoodle, recently visited us for an emergency consult after experiencing vomiting and abdominal discomfort. 💛

Maggie is a curious girl with a known love for chewing on things she shouldn’t! Given her history, we proceeded with blood tests and X-rays… and spotted a suspicious foreign body making its way through her gastrointestinal tract 👀

👉 Swipe left to check out Maggie’s X-ray! 🩻

🔍 What do you think the foreign body could be?

💬 Drop your guesses below before you read on! ⬇️

With careful assessment, we created a plan with her owner and arranged overnight care at another facility. Thanks to the dedicated team at the overnight care facility, the foreign body was successfully passed, avoiding the need for surgery. Such a great outcome! 🙌

Maggie is now back to her happy, playful self (though we’re hoping she might rethink her taste in snacks! 😅)

✨ Early intervention can make all the difference. If your pet is showing signs of discomfort or has gotten into something they shouldn’t, don’t wait, getting them seen early gives us the best chance for a positive outcome.

📞 Our team is here to help and can be flexible with emergency appointments when your pet needs us most.
