🚨 Important Update: H5 Bird Flu (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza) in Australia 🦜

A new strain of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), commonly known as H5 bird flu, has now been detected in Australia.

Bird flu is a nationally notifiable disease that can spread to people through contact with infected birds. Although human infections are rare, they can cause serious illness. The best way to protect yourself is to avoid contact with sick or dead birds and only handle birds if absolutely necessary.

If you need to bring an unwell bird to our clinic, please call us first. 📞 Our team will assess the situation over the phone and advise you on the safest and most appropriate next steps.

⚠️ Until further notice, no birds will be permitted inside the clinic.

Any bird requiring veterinary assessment will be triaged and examined outside the clinic by our veterinary team wearing appropriate biosecurity personal protective equipment (PPE).

If your bird is showing signs consistent with avian influenza, you are required to report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

The safety of our patients, clients, staff, and the wider community remains our priority. We will continue to provide updates as the situation develops, in line with the latest advice from Biosecurity Queensland and the national veterinary authorities.
