FYI - For those in the south east qld area…

We’ve seen an uptick in kennel cough (or canine cough) cases at AES recently.

Despite the name, kennel cough isn’t just caught in kennels. It spreads anywhere dogs gather (including parks, day care, grooming salons) and even through shared environments or contact with people.

What to watch for:

• A loud, harsh “honking” dry cough
• Gagging, sneezing or nasal discharge
• Reduced appetite or lethargy

If your dog is coughing:

✅ Keep them away from other dogs
✅ Monitor symptoms closely
✅ Contact your vet if the cough persists or worsens

🚨 Seek urgent care if there’s breathing difficulty, marked lethargy, or reduced appetite. While kennel cough is often mild, early veterinary advice can help manage symptoms, reduce spread and prevent complications.
