If you've been part of our village for a while, you already know Moose.

The big, goofy, larger than life dog who somehow managed to make every single day at Village Tails a little bit funnier and a little bit brighter. The one who'd photobomb every post, steal every scene, and make you wonder how on earth a dog that ridiculous hadn't been snapped up in five minutes.

He was with us for 305 days.

He never found his forever home.

And on the 29th of April, we lost him - suddenly, brutally, and far too soon. What started as an upset tummy turned into an emergency surgery that turned into the call nobody was ready for.

Cancer. Inoperable. A dog not even two years old.

We held him as he left us. He was safe. He was loved. But he should have had so much more time.

We created Moose's Mission in his honour, because if we couldn't give Moose his forever, we could at least make sure his legacy lives on in every animal we pull from the pounds he never got to see.

And then life kept coming at us the way it always does in rescue. Surprise arrivals that weren't on the manifest. More surrenders than we have ever seen in a single year, people doing it tough and animals caught in the middle. And Malcolm, our heartbreaking gentle giant, still in boarding kennels after eleven weeks, with fees that land entirely on us.

We are tired, if we're honest with you.

But we are still here. Still going. Still saying yes when every practical instinct says maybe think about this one.

Because Moose would have wanted us to.

So here's where we need you.

🐾 Meet Diesel 🐾

There is something truly special about Diesel. This beautiful-natured boy is gentle, affectionate, and loves being close to his people.

His crate is his safe place, and you'll often find him happily tucked away with his favourite toys and treasured koala. At night, he loves being cosy indoors and will happily settle himself into his crate.

Diesel is doing wonderfully with his toilet training and is making great progress every day. He's still a little timid at times and can be frightened by raised voices, so he'll thrive in a calm, patient home.

Like any growing puppy, Diesel has plenty of energy and loves to bounce around outside before returning to your side. He enjoys treats, belly rubs, head scratches, and quietly watching family life unfold around him.

We think Diesel would benefit from a friendly, confident canine companion to help him continue building confidence and learning about the world and an active family. With a little time and love, this sweet boy is going to make an incredible best friend. ❤️

Ernie arrived on transport with his two brothers last weekend and is now settling into foster care while he waits for his forever family.

This sweet little boy is a bit shy when meeting new people, but once he feels safe and comfortable, he's all love, affection, and cuddles. Ernie may be timid at first, but beneath that cautious exterior is a gentle soul who just wants to be close to his people.

Toys aren't really his thing, but food and treats are definitely the way to his heart! He's also doing well on his lead and halter and enjoys getting out and exploring the world at his own pace.

Ernie would thrive in a home with another friendly, confident dog to show him the ropes, or with someone who is home often and can give him plenty of companionship and reassurance while he continues to build his confidence.

His toilet training is coming along nicely, and he's improving every day.

The happiest we've seen Ernie is curled up on the couch beside his people, watching TV and enjoying all the comforts of home. ❤️

At just 15 weeks old, this adorable Terrier mix is ready to find the family she's been dreaming of. Evie can be a little shy when meeting new people but give her a few minutes and you'll quickly discover the happy, bubbly girl underneath. Once she knows you're a friend, she absolutely loves being around her humans and joining in on whatever fun is happening.

Evie is a social butterfly when it comes to other dogs and especially enjoys running around and playing with her bigger canine friends. She's an active young puppy who would love a family that enjoys getting out and about, but she's also got a wonderful off-switch and is more than happy to settle down for a long snooze once she's had her fun.

This clever little girl is already sleeping through the night in her crate and is doing an excellent job with her toilet training. For such a young puppy, she's proving to be a very good student.

🐾 Meet Montgomery Chester Billingsworth the Third 🐾 (but his friends call him Monty.)

When he’s not busy looking impossibly adorable, Monty can be found working his part-time job in finance. Handsome, intelligent, and charming — he really is the full package.

Monty can be a little worried at times and has discovered that the safest place in the world is apparently a plant pot whenever the resident dogs decide to bark. Future adopters, please note: a suitable plant pot is considered essential furniture for this gentleman.

This sweet boy has been living with children, other dogs, and even a resident cat, and he has proven himself to be an absolute star with everyone.

Like many of our rescue pups, Monty can be a little unsure when meeting new people. He’s already been through more than any puppy should, so he will need a patient family willing to give him the time and reassurance he needs to settle in. Watching his confidence blossom will be one of the most rewarding parts of welcoming him into your home.

As with all puppies, we highly recommend ongoing training to help him grow into the very best version of himself. Be prepared for plenty of puppy antics, zoomies, and the occasional moment of mischief along the way.

With his gorgeous looks, gentle nature, and endearing plant-pot habit, we have a feeling Monty is going to be incredibly popular.

Let’s meet Caleb🐾

Since arriving in foster care, Caleb has been an absolute delight and is settling beautifully into household life.

He’s curious about all the new sounds, sights and activity around him, taking everything in stride. While he can be a little unsure in new situations, he loves human company and will happily seek out a cuddle and some reassurance. Despite this, he isn’t fearful – he’s a very calm, relaxed little guy.

Caleb has shown no signs of biting or mouthing, although he is still learning that putting his front paws up on people isn’t the best way to say hello. He’s also incredibly quiet – not a single bark so far! The only sound we’ve heard is a little whine when he’d like to come out of his crate.

Toilet training is coming along nicely, with all toiletings done outside on the grass when taken out after naps and meals.

He’s becoming more confident around his foster dog sibling and, after watching her play with toys, decided it looked like fun and gave it a go himself.

Caleb is a very sweet boy who is blossoming a little more every day. We think he’ll make a wonderful companion for a lucky family.

Hi there! My name is Ivy, and I’m a fun sized miniature Dachshund looking for my perfect forever home. I’m about one year old (we think!) and weigh just under 5kg, but don’t let my tiny size fool you. I have a big personality, plenty of energy, and a clever little Dachshund brain that needs lots of mental stimulation and enrichment to keep me happy.

I love playing fetch, learning new things, and being involved in whatever my humans are doing. I’m currently working hard on my toilet training, basic manners, and learning how to walk nicely on a lead.

I’m still a young girl, so I’ll need a patient family who can continue my training and help me become the very best version of myself.

I’ve met cats while in care, but I would need a confident, dog savvy cat who won’t be intimidated by my enthusiasm. Homes with pocket pets are not suitable, and I’d be happiest in a home without small children.

I can be a little selective about sharing my space and belongings with other dogs, but I have been happily sharing with the resident male dog who can be a little grumpy! Because of this, I’d be best suited to an owner who understands Dachshunds and is committed to continuing my training and helping me feel secure.

Hi everyone, meet Ernie one our cattle mix trio who arrived at the weekend and we estimate to be 4-5 months of age🐾

This evening we have the pleasure of introducing Toby. 🐾

Part-time heartbreaker, part-time shoe thief (although we're not sure we believe foster mum that this cutie could possibly have a naughty side! 😇)

Toby and his siblings were found abandoned at a local sports oval. We don't know much about his history, but we do know he is 100% adorable.

He's a tiny little guy, currently weighing just 3.6kg, and we wouldn't expect him to be much more than 10kg when fully grown. We estimate him to be 3-4 months old currently.

While he loves a cuddle once he's been picked up, Toby isn't much of a lap dog—there's simply too much to see, do and explore! He's confident around the bigger dogs in his foster home and hasn't shown any interest in the resident cat.

This clever little man hasn't had any toilet accidents indoors and happily sleeps in his crate overnight.

We have a feeling this delicious young gentleman is going to be very popular, and we'll be accepting expressions of interest very soon.
