🖤🌟APRILS GROUP TRAINING SESSION

I am always very humbled to be asked to help teams with their pictures. What makes our group training sessions special is collectively there’s probably 100 years of dog training experience here.

So im always and will forever be open to the input of others even completely new handlers. It’s the best way to develop problem solving skills for such a complex application.

This was such a fun weekend! I had a blast. ♥️

Hey all, just sending out a notice to all my dog friends.

Precise k9 is open for business again. Thank you for being patient as I mourned my mother (my best friends) passing.

We have our zoosh back for training so I’m now taking on sports training clients again.

If you need help with engagement, heeling, obedience at any level, I’m available.

Furthermore we will also be putting together monthly group sessions. If numbers are good you can bring your dog and that will run for around 3 hours. Spots limited…

Learn about your dog but also about other teams. The fastest way to gain some experience.

Dm me for details for monthly group sessions or individual sessions.

We’re not taking interstate workshop bookings yet. Thank you for your patience.

Hopefully this gal still has it.

✨◾️Creating magic ✨

You will need to teach your dog to believe you will deliver rewards without them having to see, smell or sense they are on you. The act of working should be enough to the dog to “believe” that there is a reward nearby.

After awhile the dog stops caring about the reward, the environment becomes their potential playground, a leaf or a stick has potential of turning into a reward, and the dog starts working because they love the act itself.

Not new ideologies here, but very few (even seasoned trainers) practice this.

So let’s make this an integral part of our system. It does not need to be everytime but enough to create this belief that you are indeed magic 🌟

✨◾️Let’s heel 🐕

🔳Basic POWER STEERING drills with Areta

Areta learning a right side heel and how to get into that position using a 360 turn from both left heel and under postions.

She’s just learning this new skill so my focus is enthusiasm, movement, mechanics then later we will increase speed.

Using toy or even high value luring food will send her arousal levels over which won’t help produce an environment conducive to learning relative to Ateta. All dogs are different.

Once she has solid mechanics, I will introduce high value food and then last introduce a toy.

She’s also learning to follow the shoulders from the front using tactile guidance.

I’m happy with her first session here, she’s a very quick study. Her handler on the other hand is a bit rusty, but we’re improving every day.

Like, comment, or more importantly we would appreciate a share if you think other dog people may benefit from our page so we can make more free content.

Lots of new and old things to delve into soon x

◾️TRAIN WITH ME: practical exercise: LISTEN UP.

This exercise you can practice if your dog is reliably flipped over to the VERBAL CUE.

Level: Training & proofing stages.

***********

Stand, spin, heel. Spin heel. Spin stand drop heel. Make it random.

This is one of my favourite exercises to do with my dogs to ensure their ears are really focused on to me. It also ensures you don’t fall into the trap of pattern training especially into the heel position.

Is your dog anticipating and predicting the heel after a particular command? If they are, it usually means you have been pattern training without consciously knowing it. Your dog knows what’s coming next before the cue leaves your mouth.

Patterns can be excellent but in this scenario teaching your dogs to really listen to the cues by randomising static positions will set them up for better success. It will also stop them pre-empting behaviours (including the heel) which will cost in competition.

Tips:

◾️practice this exercise in LOW DRIVE at the beginning.

Whatever that means to your dog (Areta is working for kibble here). You can add the toy as a finisher when using food. Or as the dog gets more capable at this exercise you can bring in the toy.

◾️DROP THE SPEED requirement at the beginning.

Reward effort firstly and secondly reward the mechanics and end position. As the dog improves, increase the criteria to include speed.

◾️AVOID BODY LANGUAGE help.

If you need to help the dog with tactile and physical cues the dog may not be ready for this LISTEN UP exercise.

◾️The last step is for you to VARY YOUR PITCH AND VOLUME in which you say the commands.

Not many people train this. But it’s really important to teach.

In a trial adrenaline will have your voice doing all kinds of funky things, so teaching your dog to cope with these variations is important.

Have fun with this exercise.
