We have been keeping a BIG secret!

Meet Jinlong! We've been waiting for a whole year for this little guy to join our family, and along with Dapple & Co and we've been watching him grow and develop into a beautiful boy that's almost ready to join our breeding programs 🤍

Jin has travelled all the way from Taiwan, which is a group 3 country - because of Australia's strict health policies, he needed to have a series of additional vaccinations, pass multiple vet checks and testing, and complete a mandatory waiting period before being able to travel to here. Once he arrived in Melbourne, he went directly to the quarantine facility for more testing and monitoring for 10 days before being released. Thankfully that whole process went smoothly and he arrived safely with no delays!

Jin's name was originally chosen as a placeholder, but it stuck! Importing a breeding dog is a huge thing for everyone involved, it's financially risky and it takes a lot of time, so we felt like we needed a bit of extra luck! Jinlong is a Taiwanese name - "Jin" means golden, fitting with his colour, and "long" means dragon, which is a lucky symbol for the Taiwanese. Our little lucky golden dragon is proving to be just that!

We are already in love with his happy, silly and fun personality 😍 and we're looking forward to the future he will bring to our breeding programs!

Raj - 11 weeks old, waiting patiently for his forever family 🧡

Raj is a shaded red dapple silky wire dachshund. He will lose his shading (black hairs) as he grows, and will be mostly red as an adult. He has one blue eye and this will stay forever! His coat will grow longer and fluffier, and stay beautifully soft!

A little about silky wire dachshunds:

They are purebred dachshunds, genetically longhaired with a gene we call furnishings - this gives them the extra fluffy coat. They feel just as soft as longhaired coats, if not softer! The 'wire' part of the name comes from wirehaired dachshunds, which are genetically smooth coated with the furnishings gene, and this makes them appear to have wirey hair.

Grooming - the easiest way to maintain a silky coat is to give them a quick brush every day, 2-3mins of bonding time with your dog in the morning is the perfect way to start the day! Silkies do shed a small amount, and it needs to be brushed out of their coats so it doesn't cause mats. A bath every 2-3 weeks in addition is all that's needed to keep your silky looking beautiful!

Temprement - typically silkies are confident, independent and easygoing, they don't hold grudges and they love to play! 

Every pup has a different personality, some will be more active and some more couch potato, some less people focused and some more needy. Regardless of coat type, it's important to choose a breeder who knows each puppy and what home will suit them, so that you have the best match for your family 🤍

Lenny is a clear red silky wire dachshund, he will get slightly darker in colour as he grows, staying a light red as an adult. His coat will grow longer and fluffier, and stay beautifully soft!
