Why does your dog keep scooting their bum across the floor?

It can look funny, but repeated scooting is usually a sign that something is irritating or bothering them.

A**l glands are one possible cause, but soft stools, parasites, allergies, skin irritation or something caught around the area can also play a part.

One thing many owners don’t realise is that stool consistency can matter too. Well-formed stools can help the a**l sacs empty naturally, while regularly soft or loose stools may contribute to problems in some dogs.
So if the scooting keeps happening, don’t just focus on their bottom. Look at the bigger picture - their poo, digestion, skin and behaviour.

If your dog seems uncomfortable or the scooting keeps coming back, it’s worth having your vet investigate what’s causing it.

Spring can be beautiful… but for some pets, it can also mean a lot more scratching, licking and irritation.

If your pet suddenly seems itchier than usual, keep an eye on things like paw licking, face rubbing, ear scratching and changes in their skin.

A few simple habits can help too - wiping paws after outdoor time, washing bedding regularly and checking their skin, ears and paws more often during spring.

And remember, not every itch is automatically a seasonal allergy. If it keeps coming back, gets worse or your pet seems uncomfortable, it’s worth checking in with your vet.
