🐾 Large breed dogs & desexing timing 🐾💙

When it comes to desexing dogs, one size doesn’t always fit all — especially for our larger breeds. 🐶

Big dogs such as Great Danes, German Shepherds, Labradors, Mastiffs and similar breeds often benefit from delaying desexing compared to smaller breeds. This is because their bodies take longer to fully mature, and hormones play an important role in healthy growth, joint development, and long-term wellbeing.

For many large and giant breeds, veterinarians may recommend:
✔️ Delaying desexing until skeletal maturity (often 12–18 months or longer)
✔️ Individual assessment based on breed, lifestyle, and health
✔️ Tailored timing rather than a “one size fits all” approach

This differs from many smaller breeds, where earlier desexing may be recommended as they reach maturity sooner and may have different health considerations.

Every dog is unique, and the best timing for desexing depends on:
✔️ Breed and size
✔️ Growth rate and development
✔️ Behaviour and lifestyle factors
✔️ Individual health needs

That’s why a personalised conversation with your vet is so important — to ensure the best long-term outcome for your dog’s health and happiness. ❤️

If you’re unsure when the right time is for your large breed dog, we’re here to help guide you through it. 🐾

🐾 Growing older, staying cared for 🐾💙

Beautiful Poppie recently came in for her 6-monthly cardiac ultrasound to monitor her heart health and ensure her treatment plan is continuing to support her quality of life. ❤️

As pets age, regular health checks and follow-up appointments become even more important. Conditions that are managed early and monitored closely can often mean pets continue to enjoy many happy, comfortable years with their families.

Ongoing care for senior pets can include:
✔️ Routine wellness exams and senior health checks
✔️ Ongoing monitoring of heart, kidney, liver, and other chronic conditions
✔️ Repeat imaging such as ultrasounds and X-rays when needed
✔️ Regular blood and urine testing
✔️ Medication reviews and treatment adjustments
✔️ Pain management and mobility support
✔️ Dental care and oral health monitoring

These follow-ups aren’t just appointments — they’re part of a partnership to keep pets like Poppie feeling their best and enjoying life with the people who love them most. 🐶🐾

Well done, Poppie — keep enjoying that beautiful life with your family! 💙

🐾 Meet Lily! 🐾💙

Lily recently came in to make sure all her preventatives were up to date — and she was an absolute star while she was here! 🥰

Preventative care is one of the most important parts of keeping both cats and dogs happy and healthy. It’s all about protecting them before problems arise, so they can enjoy more time doing what they do best — playing, exploring, and being loved. ❤️

Preventative care for pets can include:
✔️ Flea, tick, and worm protection
✔️ Routine vaccinations
✔️ Heartworm prevention (for dogs in particular)
✔️ Regular health checks
✔️ Dental care to support long-term oral health
✔️ Weight and nutrition management
✔️ Early detection screening for disease

Keeping up with preventatives helps reduce the risk of serious illness, avoids unnecessary discomfort for your pet, and can often prevent costly treatments down the track.

Well done, Lily — you’re all set to stay happy, healthy, and protected! 🐶🐱✨

💙 A heartfelt thank you 💙

To the wonderful client who so kindly surprised us with flowers and a beautiful message — you know who you are — thank you. Your thoughtfulness genuinely meant the world to our team. 🐾🌸

We also want to extend that gratitude to all of our clients who take the time to say thank you in so many different ways — whether it’s a kind word at reception, a message online, a smile, or simply trusting us with your beloved pets. Those moments stay with us and make our days that little bit brighter. ❤️

To us, providing care is simply what we do every day — but it’s never “just routine” when it comes to your pets. Every visit matters, and every patient is treated with the same goal in mind: their comfort, health, and happiness.

Veterinary care can range from the everyday to the extraordinary, including:

✔️ Routine health checks and preventative care
✔️ Vaccinations and parasite prevention
✔️ Dental care and oral health treatment
✔️ Nutrition and weight management support
✔️ Diagnosing and managing chronic conditions
✔️ Imaging and diagnostic testing (x-rays, ultrasounds, bloodwork)
✔️ Surgery and advanced medical procedures
✔️ Emergency and critical care when every second counts
✔️ Life-saving interventions and intensive care support

Every appointment, every patient, every decision — big or small — is guided by one purpose: giving your pet the healthiest, happiest life possible. 🐶🐱

Thank you for your kindness, your trust, and your continued support. It truly means more than words can say. 💙

🐾 Meet Bentley! 🐾💉

This handsome little guy popped in recently for his puppy vaccination, and he absolutely stole the show with his big personality and even bigger cuteness! ❤️

Puppy vaccinations are such an important step in giving pups like Bentley the best start in life — helping to protect them against serious diseases while they grow, explore, and learn about the world around them. 🌏🐶

It was all tail wags and bravery from Bentley, and we can’t wait to watch him grow into a strong, happy, and healthy boy! 🥰

🐾 Double the cuteness, double the chaos (and cuddles)! 🐾

Meet littermates Hadley and Agatha — two gorgeous Border Collie siblings who recently came in for their puppy booster vaccinations with us! ❤️💉

While they share the same loving start in life, they’re already showing off the beautiful colour variation Border Collies are known for — from striking coat patterns to unique markings that make each pup completely one-of-a-kind to their colour. Yes, not all Border Collies are the traditional black and white! ✨

Border Collies are well known for being:
✔️ Highly intelligent and quick learners
✔️ Loyal, affectionate family companions
✔️ Energetic and playful (they thrive with stimulation and activity!)
✔️ Great working and agility dogs when given the right outlet

Watching these two grow and develop their personalities is going to be such a joy — and we can already tell they’re going to keep their family very entertained! 😄

A big well done to Hadley and Agatha for being so brave for their vaccinations! 🐶🐶💙
