Yindi has only been home since Sunday morning… and by Tuesday night she’s already learning one of the most valuable life skills a puppy can have — being comfortable in her crate 🐾✨
Crate training often gets misunderstood, but when it’s done properly, it’s not confinement — it’s security 💛
For a young puppy, the world is big, new, and sometimes overwhelming. A crate becomes:
🐾 A safe, predictable space to rest and switch off
🐾 A tool to support toilet training (puppies naturally avoid soiling their sleeping area)
🐾 A way to prevent rehearsal of unwanted behaviours when you can’t supervise
🐾 A foundation for independence, helping prevent separation issues later on
🐾 A place they can settle in any environment — at home, travelling, or in new situations
Now let’s talk about the part people don’t always expect… the noise!! 😄👇
Yindi has definitely found her voice — barking, yelling, howling, and expressing some very strong opinions about crate time 🎤🐶
This is completely normal.
Puppies vocalise because:
🔸 They’re adjusting to being away from littermates
🔸 They’re seeking attention or interaction
🔸 They’re overtired and struggling to self-settle
🔸 Or simply because “I don’t like this yet!”
The key is how you respond 👇
We’re not letting her out when she’s making a lot of noise, as that would reinforce the behaviour 🚫
Instead, we’re watching closely for those tiny moments of quiet — even a second or two — and reinforcing that 🎯
That’s where the learning happens:
✨ Calm = reward
🚫 Noise = no outcome
It’s not about expecting silence straight away — it’s about building the understanding that being calm and settled is what works 🧠💡
You’ll notice Yindi isn’t distressed — she’s learning to relax in there with her toys, a comfy bed, chews, her heartbeat puppy and positive associations 🛏️🧸
That’s the goal. The crate should never be used as punishment — it should feel like a bedroom, not a timeout zone 🏡💤
Early investment here pays off long-term. A puppy who can calmly settle in a crate grows into a dog who can regulate themselves, cope with change, and truly relax 🐶💫
And yes… sometimes it also means you can shower, cook dinner, or drink a hot coffee without supervising a tiny land shark or a peeing, pooping machine.☕😄
Yindi is already showing us she’s got a good off-switch in there — and that’s something worth building on 💛🐾
