🪩Reflection time🪩🐐🐐🐐🐐
Our goal here at Woodene Park, is to improve conformation in our Pygmy goats with each generation…
It’s a slow process but oh so rewarding.🤗
Our future is bright☀️🌟, with the 2026 kidding finished we have already been busy planning and prepping for a big 2027 in our breeding program here.
I’m so excited to include some of my homebred Does kidding for the first time next year.
I’ve been thrilled with our two homebred fresheners from this year, both Dreamtime and Hazelnuts kids have shown conformational improvements with ear shape and position, overall cobbiness of their whole bodies, spring of rib, shorter in the cannon bone compared to their mothers and/or father, greater width of breast, esp in Dreamtime’s kids, Hazelnut already had this quality and it’s continued in her two kids, width in escutcheon area is my favourite 😝, to name a few…
Big thanks, to our stud buck Kamali’i Sweet Victory, the combinations have worked beautifully🙂 His gentle mannerism and easy to handle nature has hopefully passed onto his kids, along with adding the conformational attributes, time will tell. Overall - Thrilled!💙💗
We are still a young stud here, with my homebred Does only reaching 2-3 years of age.
I’m also am now proud to start growing out select bucks to watch them mature, I just love the boys, they are such characters. Making decisions about wethering or not, is always a point of discussion, as their future is of utmost importance to me…as wethers make the best pets!
My first Pygmy Does and buck from Vino Amore stud in NSW were instrumental, they are now fully matured at 4 years of age, watching my buck Vino Amore Prince Nicholas grow, change and develop, and now reaping the rewards through using him with foundation Does, to produce my homebred girls has been a wonderful journey and continues on, but the focus now shifting to my second & third generation kids - watching them develop and grow, making assessments as they progress.
It’s quite amazing. You can tell a lot at birth and make judgements about conformation qualities from the time they hit the ground and find their feet and start bouncing…
☺️ But ultimately, baring in mind, you’ll never quite know until full maturity of what your truly looking at.
So making decisions so young is quite challenging.🤔🤪
I value my lower % Does, as they continue to produce kids with varying attributes to the Pygmy breed. To start seeing their kids have kids, and now moving towards third generation kids is a big eye opener and a wonderful process, through selection criteria.
You never quite know what you’re going to get. Diversifying the gene pool is important to continue what we do here in Australia.
2027 I cannot wait!
🙂For me, I’ll continue to educate myself (as we all know goats are quite complex creatures, who like to keep us on our toes), to improve systems around the farm, to have fun with goat side adventure (watch this space😝) but mostly to love 🫶🏼my Pygmy goats and fulfill my dreams…and just love what I do. 💗
