F*ck I love this little dog, we have so much fun together but if we don’t do some training with her and fulfil her needs through play, she is an absolute menace to the whole household.

This little session was a total of 3 mins, that’s it! It’s not perfect and I’m super unco trying to learn new tricks and skills myself but she doesn’t care, she just likes learning s**t and getting paid for it (don’t be stingey, pay your dogs)

During Maple’s awake time, which is probably about 1-1.5hrs this is made up of:

- if we have time, a couple of these little training sessions, with play breaks between them, either at home or out practicing her skills in different environments.

-she gets some unsupervised (but supervised) play time on her own (normally I’m peaking through a window like a creep just to make sure she’s not getting up to too much mischief) probably only 10-15 mins

- or some play time in her pen, which she normally plays with her toys for a bit and then puts herself to sleep in her crate (this has been useful when I’ve had to rush out the door and haven’t had a chance to do some training with her).

- or I give her a chewy treat in her crate and she puts herself to sleep once she’s done.

If you want to set your puppy up for success, do fun stuff with them, teach them tricks but also teach them useful skills like how to settle on their own, recalls, bed command, any life skills to make life easier for you and them.

If you have another dog, teach your puppy manners around play and interacting with them nicely and give them supervised freedoms.

You actually don’t need to be entertaining your puppy or your dog all day long, in fact it’s so beneficial to teach them some independence. It’s wild that people would rather take their dogs to doggy day care because they can’t leave them home alone and if it’s a doggy day care that doesn’t have experienced trainers working there then this is probably creating overstimulation, reactivity and other problem behaviours.

It’s nothing but good vibes and people sharing snaps of their dogs hanging out at Bunnings. What I love about this community is the creator of the group and page provides some great educational tips about responsible pet ownership and how we can make Australia more pet friendly.

Let’s be real, who wouldn’t love more opportunities to take their dog out with them. This only happens if we are respectful and responsible in public spaces ❤️

Positive feedback is great, not just for the dog we’re training, but also for the human on the other end of the lead.

A lot of people think a dog trainer’s job is to train dogs. Really, it’s more about coaching you. I know how to train dogs, but my job is to help you train your dog. Meaning, if the feedback, support and advice I give you help you get great results, then I’ve done my job right.

Everyone learns differently, so I usually ask how my clients learn best. But if the way I coach isn’t helping you, please tell me. I genuinely welcome honest feedback so I can tweak things. Positive feedback lets me know what’s working, but constructive feedback is just as valuable. The goal is making sure you’re getting the most out of our sessions and feel supported.

So, between sessions you can always shoot me a message to ask questions, send me progress videos and give me feedback so I can keep improving the way I coach my clients.
