Saturday night at the Ray White Livestock Rockhampton Working Dog Trial & Sale, this image captured a genuinely authentic moment with Rookie Incentive winner Andrew of and a powerhouse pup, Addy's Elsie.

Here's the back story…

I'd spotted Andrew earlier in the weekend for a quick vox pop, but he was about to head in for a run, so we agreed to catch up later. The weekend got busy (as they do), and it wasn't until after the incentive finals, when he was getting some extra snaps with the photographer out the back, that I knew this was the opportunity. 🎥

What was meant to be a short, lighthearted interview turned into something so much more.

As a first-time competitor and vendor with zero expectations heading in, Andrew shared what the last couple of days had truly meant to him, and how this little dog had completely exceeded expectations and found an even deeper place in his heart.

I am by no means a confident interviewer, and trust me to stumble over words and forget my questions, but that's the beauty of social media. We're real humans wanting real conversations. 💬

What a weekend… and what a win 🏆✨

Andrew & Addy’s Elsie – 2026 Rookie Incentive Winner

Round 1 saw Elsie step out second last and put together a solid, honest run — scoring 84 to place her 3rd going into the final.

Today in the final, she drew early and came out with that same strength, confidence, and feel… delivering a cracking 90-point run to take the lead from the start.

And she held it.
All the way.

Finishing on 174 points to take the win.

For such a young bitch, the composure, grit, and stock sense she showed all weekend has been something special to watch. She’s been an absolute pleasure to work with from day one.

Elsie – Round 2
Tougher cattle, more pressure… but this young bitch never took a backward step.

She handled it with grit, feel, and a level head beyond her age — working right through to a solid 64.

Still learning, still building… and showing exactly what she’s made of.

Addy’s Elsie

First run on cattle this morning and she stepped up in a big way.

Scoring a 91, Andrew and Elsie showed exactly what they’ve been quietly building.

She was purchased by Jay Hurlock at last year’s Ray White Livestock Rockhampton Working Dog Sale and at just 16 months old, she’s still very young.

She’s by 7J Ike (USA), owned by Slash D Stockdogs, and out of Tomana Spice. Bred by Marty Addy of Addy’s Working Dogs, and owned by Jay Hurlock.

Andrew has had her since she was around 5 months old and has just gone about bringing her along quietly — no fuss, no shortcuts, just putting the right foundation into her.

She’s a silent worker with a real presence on her stock, and today she backed that up when it counted.

Still plenty ahead of her, but we couldn’t be prouder of how she handled herself.

A good start for a young dog.
