🌼 Spring is here, and while blooming flowers and fresh grass often come to mind when we think of allergies, they're not the only triggers for our pets.

Just like us, dogs can have allergic reactions to a wide range of things, including environmental allergens, insect stings, flea bites, household chemicals, medications and even certain foods.

The tricky part? In many cases, the exact cause of an allergic reaction remains unknown. Symptoms can appear immediately or up to 48 hours later, making it important to know the potential triggers and seek veterinary attention if you suspect your pet is having a reaction.

⚠️ Rat Bait Poisoning in Dogs 🐶
We have seen several cases of rat bait poisoning in dogs in recent weeks, so we wanted to take the opportunity to remind everyone to be extra careful.

Dogs can be poisoned by eating rat bait directly, but they can also be exposed by eating a mouse or rat that has consumed the bait.

Depending on the type of rat bait, symptoms can include:

Coughing or difficulty breathing
Weakness or lethargy
Vomiting
Tremors or seizures
Bleeding or bruising
Increased thirst or urination
Pale gums

Importantly, symptoms may not appear straight away, so your dog can seem perfectly normal after eating bait or a poisoned rodent.

🚨 If you suspect your dog has eaten rat bait or a mouse/rat that may have eaten bait, please contact us immediately. Don’t wait for symptoms to develop.

If possible, bring the rat bait packaging with you so our vets can identify the active ingredient and provide the appropriate treatment.

🐾 Please keep rat bait securely away from pets and remember that secondary poisoning from eating poisoned rodents is also possible.
