One of the hardest mobile grooms I’ve ever done pulled up as what the owner described as “just a little matted.”

The second I got the clippers through the coat, I knew it was bad. Really bad.
Under all the matting, the poor dog had been chewing at its own foot trying to get relief from the constant pulling and pain. Once the hair came off properly, there was skin missing where it had gnawed itself raw.

That’s the part people don’t see when they think matting is “just knots.”

This dog had been walking around carrying a tight, dirty, painful coat every single day. Mats pull on the skin with every movement, trap moisture, hide sores, and can literally make dogs chew themselves apart trying to escape the discomfort.

The saddest part? The dog stood there so calmly once the coat started coming off. You could actually see the relief.
Some mobile grooming days stick with you long after you pack the trailer up and drive away.

✂️ Why Regular Clipping Is Important for Your Dog 🐶
Clipping isn’t just about looks — it plays a big role in your dog’s comfort, hygiene, and overall wellbeing.

🐾 Prevents Overheating
Even in cooler months, dogs can still overheat if their coat becomes too thick, heavy, or matted. A proper clip helps keep their coat manageable and comfortable.

🐾 Stops Matting Before It Starts
Once a coat starts to knot, it can quickly turn into tight matting, which pulls on the skin and can become painful if left too long.

🐾 Better Skin Health
A maintained coat allows air to circulate through the fur and helps reduce trapped moisture, dirt, and bacteria against the skin.

🐾 Easier Home Maintenance
Regular clipping means less shedding buildup around your home and easier brushing between grooms.

🐾 More Comfortable for Your Dog
A well-maintained coat is simply easier for your dog to move in, especially for older dogs or dogs with thicker coats.

✂️ Should Dogs Still Be Clipped in Winter? Absolutely 🐶❄️
A common myth is that dogs shouldn’t be clipped during the cooler months because they “need their coat for warmth.” While a coat does provide insulation, what matters most is the condition of the coat — not just the length.
Here’s why winter clipping is still important:

🐾 A matted coat doesn’t keep them warm
Once fur becomes tangled or matted, it actually stops working as insulation. Instead, it traps moisture and can make your dog colder and uncomfortable.

🐾 Comfort over bulk
A well-maintained, properly clipped coat is often more comfortable than a thick, knotted winter coat that pulls on the skin.

🐾 Easier drying after wet weather
Winter often means rain and damp conditions. A maintained coat dries faster and reduces that “wet dog” smell and skin irritation.

🐾 Prevents problems building up
Leaving coats too long over winter can mean bigger grooming issues by spring — including heavy matting that’s harder to deal with.

🐾 It’s adjusted, not shaved off
Winter clips are usually done with comfort in mind — leaving enough coat length to keep warmth while still keeping the coat healthy and manageable.

Hi everyone, my name is Shane and I’ve recently started my own dog grooming business, The Fur Thief Dog Grooming 🐾

I’ve been working in the dog grooming industry for around 15 years, mainly focusing on maintenance grooms and deshedding. Over the years I’ve seen that not everyone is looking for fancy salon grooming — sometimes people just want a good, honest groom at a more affordable price.

I work from home in a clean, calm, one-on-one environment, which helps keep my overheads lower. My goal is to pass those savings on to you, the customer, while still providing quality care for your dog.

Whether your dog just needs:
🐶 A tidy-up
🐶 A maintenance groom
🐶 A good deshed
🐶 Or just a freshen up

…I’d love the opportunity to help.

Feel free to message the page for enquiries, pricing, or bookings 😊

🐾 Why Is De-Shedding Important? 🐾

A lot of people think de-shedding is just about reducing dog hair around the house — but it also helps keep your dog’s coat and skin healthier and more comfortable.

Regular de-shedding can help:
✅ Remove loose undercoat
✅ Reduce knots and matting
✅ Improve airflow through the coat
✅ Keep your dog cooler and more comfortable
✅ Reduce excess hair around your home
✅ Help spot skin issues earlier

Double-coated and heavy-shedding breeds especially benefit from regular coat maintenance.

At The Fur Thief Grooming, I focus on calm, practical grooming with simple, transparent pricing 🐶✂️
