Matting in your dog’s fur can be uncomfortable and even painful for them. At Doggies Day Out, we focus on carefully removing mild mats using specialized dematting tools and products. This process is safe when caught early, but we never brush out severely matted dogs, as it can cause them pain.

If the matting is more than mild, the best and safest option is to shave the mats off. While shaving can leave shorter spots in the coat, it helps your dog’s skin breathe and relieves discomfort. We always handle matting with care since there may be hidden skin conditions, such as warts or moles, under the mats. Even experienced groomers may unintentionally nick the skin while shaving severe mats.

Remember, using clippers is safer than scissors to avoid injury. Also, be mindful of your dog’s ears. Matting can cause painful ear hematomas😧😧, as restricted blood flow weakens the ear skin and can lead to ruptured blood vessels.
